Same character designs is about the only thing that they have going for being similar. Even then, the designs are different. If you go up a few posts, you'll see that I point out the guys have become bishounens while the girls are more "cute" than "sexy"
I've also not been following recently, because a bi-weekly release that is sometimes just "extras" doesn't help. That said, it IS still a very interesting plot.
