When the giants showed up the music reminded me of the Dog Fight music from Macross Plus for some reason. I kept expecting the YF-19 to come by and pinpoint barrier punch the Giants. |

But the beginning, and the ending. The same tune, different versions. My absolute favourite BGM in the whole series. SO IN LOVE. I will actually pay good money to possess lengthy versions of both songs, and just those songs. (Of course, the Incredibly Overwrought Violins that herald Mikuru-abuse would be a nice bonus.) |

The background music is so good! It really gave the current situation much more life than it has. This episode didn't disappoint, and all the major points that I am looking for (as a novel reader) are there. Though probably not the best episode in the whole series, this comes close to second or third.
On the animation part, it is absolutely awesome. The "recap slideshow" shown in grayscale was so beautiful. Even the "analysis of dreams" (REM and stuff like that) were given the nerve-break animation that surely caught my attention. The closed space was so realistic (even the deafening silence can be heard!) that I thought I was in there with them. All in all, a good conclusion to the arguably best Anime in Spring 2006. Now the second season awaits! I was kinda disappointed though that they didn't magnify the "climax scene". T_T. Was the BGM a classical piece by someone? If so, who knows the title? I'm gonna go look for it! XD Oh yeah, I give this episode a 10. |

Other than that, the season was good and hopefully we'll get another. |

I agree with the background music. The music director has picked out some of my favorite music from my favorite composers. The Day of Sagittarius gave us Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe, Shostakovich's 7th Symphony, and Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony.
This time we have Mahler's 8th Symphony, which plays when the Shinjin emerges behind Kyon and all throughout the escape sequence. Outstanding! |

I haven't seen the a.f.k. sub of Episode 14 yet, but based on the quality of translation through the first 13 episodes, the difficulty of the source material (there is a LOT of talking in Haruhi), a.f.k.'s rock-solid schedule, and the extra effort it must have taken to get 14 done in one day, this is probably the most impressive fansubbing project I've witnessed. Thank you.

A.F.K. are just god-like in every conceivable way. As far as I can recall, they have beautifully and perfectly maintained a schedule throuhout the run of the show. "Oh, Haruhi's up. It must be Tuesday." I could almost set my watch by their releases. They have deviated from that schedule once (again, if memory serves me correctly), and that was to get this final episode out a day early.
A.F.K. and Eclipse have spoiled me so badly. I hope the A.F.K. Haruhi team shows up in this thread and takes a well-deserved bow. They have been as amazing as the show. |

I freaking loved everything in this episode! The change of atmosphere between the two realities, the music (especially during the rampage of the Avatars), the awesome delivered by Kyon's narration, the cinematography, everything!
KyoAni outdid themselves in my book. It is my favourite ending, in my top 5 along with Gungrave, Cowboy Bebop, Kimagure Orange Road and Lodoss to Senki. It leaves me so blue ;__; EDIT: Yuki's typed line about Kyon and her vow to protect him made me melt. Last edited by Sheba; 2006-07-03 at 20:06. |
