In fact, it seems that writing from left to right (yokogaki) is a relatively recent custom, we are talking about post WWII. Before that characters were written mainly vertically and then right to left.

Speaking about the First Kaii Killer - in Owari 2 Gaen managed to retrieve two magic swords from First's armor plate, not one, right?

-Tadatsuru actually knows how to read the name of the park where Araragi and Hachikuji met. 浪白 was actually written 沱白, and read as "shirohebi".

The story is long here, but as explained also by Ougi in the next story, the people there worshipped a water snake god to which a lake belonged. Kissshot evaporated the lake when she came to Japan. The point where she landed was Shirohebi Park. After she left the people had no god left to worship, and most of them had even been eaten by kurayami, so the relocated the temple to the mountains, where aboriginals worshipped the mountain snake god.

The first time she visited Japan was 400 years in the past and she didn't stay there, so of course she travelled around the world.

-Right, I forgot about them, though Seishirou was technically already dead.
-She didn't retrieve as much as forge them anew using the First's armor as raw material, but yeah, she forged even Yumewatari.

There were supposed to be two different snake gods, but I'm not sure how this revelation will affect the last book. Possibly the newly appeared girl is possessed by the original water snake god.

We will see how this will play out.

I think the last book has some potential. Every Monogatari book resembles the jo-ha-kyuu writing style. So I would assume that he's going to end the entire series similar. A rapid revelation, action or any turn of events at the end is featured in a lot of other Nisio stories.

While still hopeful for the last book, I admit I am not as hyped as I once was.

There was a chapter where only Gaen was narrating, and she explained Araragi that Ougi was basically himself. Judging from Gaen's words, there was some incredulity and surprise from Araragi, but that's all.

In the chapter where Araragi faces Ougi instead Araragi stated that he didn't want to blame anyone including Ougi, but he couldn't help but rebuke Ougi for causing so many troubles to everyone. Then again the central issue of their debate was about justice.

Well, it was an eye-opener in some ways. He considered Ougi a symbol of his youth in some ways.

I had hoped that he would be a little more humble than to say "ah, its just a sign of my immaturity." considering that most of the girls who end up facing their issues tend to be more humble, but I guess Nisio thought Araragi was self-deprecating enough that the humility wasn't needed, and Kaiki already highlighted his flaws to a point. Consider that according to Gaen Araragi spawned Ougi because he was too strict on himself, to fix his mistakes. The only answer to this in the end was cutting himself some slack

can someone explain hachikuji's entire situation as of right now? she is god now right? it is a bit hard putting these events together. As far as I got was that after she left, she met with araragi again because he was killed. He goes back to the real world through yumewatari, gaen then suggest they make hachikuji new god of snake shrine and she becomes god?

Can anyone tell me how should approach this series? considering what is said and what is actually done on screen, it is somewhat easy to misinterpret the series. There also appears to be the wrong way to interpret this series. Is there a right to interpret this series?

-there gonna be a lot of Japanese references that westerners won't get
-there is gonna be a lot of dialog between characters when nothing is happening
-pseudo-incest and loli molestation abound

Basically approach this series with an open mind. Its not for beginner anime/manga watchers.

It just seems as though that there is only one way to interpret this series as any interpretation would be 'wrong'. The characters seems to say things but it isn't matched by the action in the story.

I believe Nisio did it right. He kept the right proportions of action and dialogue. I read these novels for dialogues, psychological portraits of characters, as well as for humor. Sometimes action is needed and the author put it in the right quantities. Because there is actually a reason for that is quite simple. These books are written in the first person, on behalf of the characters. It is their mind we look into. Ofcourse there will be not that much of action, if our narrator is focused on reflection of personalities of characters and on retelling of events. And this is also stylistic device to make better immersion with story. And on my opinion, sterile environment that we have seen in anime, when there is almost no background characters, makes it deeper.
And action just might spoil it like a fly in the ointment.
So if you don't like dialogs and you prefer action - this book and anime is just not for you.

Hmmmm I guess. Still, it just seems as though that the series can only be interpreted one way and other interpretation is somehow wrong. It seems that could take things at face value but at same time I cannot trust anything the characters say (?). It also seems to mock conventional wisdom as the kids make more problems than they actually solve.
