Steam Summer Sale - 2012 edition

It's that time of year again, the Steam Summer Sale, where many a wallet begs for mercy. The sales ends on July 22nd.

Whilst most games are on sale, as usual, you should wait for daily deals to get the best discount.

Daily deals for today:
  • Portal franchise
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  • Total War: Shogun 2 franchise
  • Terraria
  • Crusader Kings II franchise
  • Ridge Racer Unbounded + DLC
  • Might and Magic franchise
  • Legend of Grimrock
  • Indie Bundle I (Lone Survivor, Cave Story+, Anomaly: Warzone Earth, Edge, The Baconing)
New this time around:
  • Flash sales- a few games get an extra discount for a few hours, so get 'em quick!
  • Community Choice (flash deal)- A similar concept to GOG.com's Battle of the Games sale. The community votes from a choice of three games, and the winning game gets a boosted discount for 8 hours (dependent on how recently released the game is), whilst a new round voting begins on the next set of games. The first winner for today is Saint's Row The Third.

Blowing through the deals in my mind
Summer sale, I knew they would!
Another indie bundled - what a find

Tell us which deal you'd like to see next! Visit the store and check out the "Community's Choice" panel on the right - click the radio buttons and then hit VOTE to help decide what gets featured above. Come back for new choices every eight hours!

Steam Scouts, we also have some fun activities scheduled - don't forget to earn your badges (and check out your existing ones).

P.S. Captain Price, if you are reading this - we have ventured inland to a meadow free of water, away from those angry beavers and mad minnow gangs. We think they may be hot on our tracks. It’s been a year but the day is finally upon us.

Thank God I looked at this post. Definitely getting MW3 for 50% off. I only want the single player campaign, anyway.

Well, that's the first purchase of the sale. lol And at least this time I got the game I wanted on its one-day sale instead of like last year when I bought Portal 2 for 33% off and then it went on its one-day sale for 50% off the next day. lol

They might get a bigger sale, like 75% off. Some people are hoping for that to happen. I'm like you though, the prices now are good enough for me and I don't want to risk waiting for nothing. Current sale goes until the 22nd according to site.

that's cool, so i guess i have some time left before deciding then. like you,
i dont know what to get beside those two Ys games...lol. i'm getting both
of them for sure. i saw some trailers of them and i instantly love the music of those
games right away.

i can get myself busy with Ys games while waiting for Persona 4 arena and other games later.
hmm....still can't decide what to get yet. i'm in no rush. let's see what happen.

EDIT: thanks, Xacual! and your Necromancer Eucliwood Hellscythe is VERY cute. <3

Yeah, that was why I ended up getting Portal 2 last year. With 33% off, I wanted the game badly enough that I was totally willing to pay that price.

Yeah I got both games for 50% off total value, that's good enough for me and now I don't have to stalk the flash sales for the next 10 days.

DISCLAIMER: No ants were harmed in the making of this post.

Construction of our friendship fort has begun. Time to take a break from all this hard work and enjoy some games.

P.S. What frightens ants the most - the ant eater or the steamroller? WRONG. Hidden option C, Cyl harnessing the power of the summer sun via magnifying glass.
I already paid full price for Max Payne 3, my only regret with that game is paying full price for the Rockstar Pass...

Kind of jumping on the Y's games topic. May wait a little bit to see if anything really amazing pops up for them, but definitely before this sale is over I'm picking up Origin and Oath, great price already.

Edit: And nice, Origin getting a flash sale dropping it to $8. Both Origin and Oath for $13 isn't bad at all.

Got Ys Origin, deal for Ys Oath ends on the 23rd, so I wait and see what is up on sale, before deciding to grab it or not.

Cyl has been looking at our tree house funny. I think he might be hatching a plan... :Dragon's rawr in the distance: No time to worry about Cyl now, we've got work to do.

P.S. Did you know ants can climb trees!??! Ant Kill Count: 9001
So far, seems nothing has caught my eye yet in these sales, though Borderlands is probably the most interesting one...
EDIT: Scratch that. There was a flash sale of both Witcher games (Witcher 1: discount boosted from 40 to 75%; and Witcher 2: boosted from 40 to 60%), and I couldn't resist picking them both up. Now to actually download them...
As of writing (at around the 6-7 hour left mark), there also appears to be flash sales on the Batman franchise (currently: USD24.99), and the Civilization Collection (currently: USD44.99).

As of writing, Bastion is about to go on a 75% off community choice flash deal (in approx. 15 mins).

If you are fan of the old-school FPS, you can't go wrong with Serious Sam 3, which is currently 75% off (USD9.99). You can also try the Serious Sam Complete Pack, also with the limited increased discount (USD21.74).
The Walking Dead is currently 40% off (USD14.99)- I've heard good things about this episodic adventure/horror series, so it might be worth giving it a go.

Are the Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 campaign worth getting? I've been thinking this might be a good time to get it, but I don't want to waste my money if they're not of the same calibre as the other Call of Duty games.

I personally think it's a matter of what you want from the single-player. Although many derided the Black Ops campaign, I personally found it refreshing and somewhat unique. Modern Warfare 3's campaign wraps things up quite nicely, but it's very action-movie like.
(I don't play CoD for the multiplayer anymore. )

Anyways, day 6 deals:
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops
  • Wargame: European Escalation
  • Stronghold 3 Gold
  • Spec Ops The Line
  • Grand Theft Auto franchise
  • Railworks 2012 Deluxe
  • Company of Heroes franchise
  • Limbo
  • Indie Bundle VI (Defcon, Aaaaa for the Awesome, Ticket to Ride, TRAUMA, SpaceChem)
