The first arc of this season was basically them vs. the RCC. It doesn't make sense for them to suddenly team up.

And "Even the Amakusa Church is involved?" doesn't mean that they're on the RCC's side. They're part of the British Puritan Church now - just think of them as an extension of Necessarius or something. There's no way they'd ever betray Kanzaki.

So these boats aren't part-magic at all...? Since Touma already touched it.
An explanation:

Quote:
Though…this feels like glass or crystal, it’s not. It’s more like ice.

Speaking of practical buildings that are made of ice, the Inuit tribe from Canada are famous for using ice to make ‘igloos’, but not of this scale.

Kamijou prods on the deck with his finger. It’s definitely something similar to ice, as skin sticks to the surface upon contact. It’s not cold; it’s slightly warm like plastic… but ice freezes at 0 degrees Celsius under atmospheric pressure, which is common knowledge. Under certain conditions however, the freezing and boiling point can be changed. There exists ice at 20 degrees Celsius and steam at 80 degrees Celsius.

This is obviously made from magic.

So even if it’s ice, the floor isn’t slippery. The reason why ice is slippery is because the surface of the ice would melt into water, reducing friction. By changing the melting point, even if the ice touches human skin, it won’t melt, so there won’t be any water on it. This magical stuff probably won’t break even with Kamijou’s right hand touching it, and would have a similar kind of effect as Stiyl’s "Innocentius".
If it's too big or it regenerates too fast, Touma's hand won't really have an effect.

If the runes are still in place, Innocentius stays there.

If you look to the second episode of the first season, you'd see that Touma couldn't dispel Innocentius because it regenerated itself faster than he could dispel it. That's why he resorted to using the sprinkler system to mess up Stiyl's runes.

Actually, yes it does, but Innocentius can regenerate as long as the spell cards Stiyl used for it is still intact and not damaged by some other interference (such as Touma's tactic of using the water sprinkler system to wash off the ink on it).

Also:

ITS-A-WAAARRR!!! (pun intended)

Ahh~, you're talking about that. Guess that is possible...
I hope there is an explanation later, though.

Innocentius is an area effect kind of spell that's generated by the barrier created by Stiyl's rune cards. Touma can dispel Innocentius but it will regenerate because of the rune cards. The ice ship works in a similar fashion. He can't negate it because it's too big and the ship will just get rid of the destroyed part and recreate it with seawater. he has to destroy the 'core' of the flet to get rid of them.

Anyway, having seen this episode, I'll give it a perfect score. Animation was lovely, the best kind of scenery porn, and the Italian was a nice touch. I also quite like the BGM. It was nice and it fit the mood well. All in all, a great episode.

Also, insert obligatory ITSUWAAAAA comment here.

Oh, you mean those guys? Better not mess with them or else in a flash we're already silenced.

... But wait, two of them were pwned by Touma and Index right...?

This just occurred to me, but since that RCC mook was punched by Touma, does that mean he'll receive the obligatory GAR and loli blessing that Touma's given Stiyl and Accelerator?

lol what a fun episode that was. Solid episode with solid animation.

The little montage at the start was great, Mitoko got her reward..sort of and Touma got dropped kicked for it

Ah Touma, your absent mindedness is gonna get you killed one of these days
I loved that 2 bathrooms scene was just funny as hell and some awesome Orsola service

The ghost ships were very nicely animated, they didn't hold back this ep.

I like the new ED, better than last one.

Great episode! Loved the beginning, Kuroko drop kicking Touma

Touma doubting his luck as a misfortune person...the bathroom trap oh man.
Of course you knock before entering Touma!

All the Italy scenes, was a nice treat to see, and the bit of Italian spoken too.

The pacing for this episode was good too thankfully. The animation quality was excellent as well! Especially for the ice ships.
The new ED was good too, can't wait to see the new OP next week.

And of course finally, Itsuwa! Need moar of her!

Fight scene was done rather well while the bath scene was hands down the best part of the episode. And we finally have a voice to go with that face for Itsuwa.

Don't know what it was before, but up till now there was something about S2 that just didn't have that same sort of energy and vibe which I thoroughly enjoyed from S1. But with this episode it feels like it's all coming back again. Hopefully, the studio won't lose their touch in the coming episodes.

I'm not a big fan of the magic side of Index but I must admit this is a nice start. Production values are top-notch again and Index in action with her chanting is always a welcome for me. I just hope it doesn't turn into another "usual Index arc" with a promising start but a bad end.

- The Authenticity of the Italian (words and people and places) was awesome.
- Index somehow manages to crank her moe factor up to 11 throughout this entire episode, plus the ED. (A compliment I don't give out easily)
- Spell Intercept was awesome.
- Embarrassingly deredere Orsola was awesome.
- Surprise Mikoto-Touma folk dance with the subsequent drop kick was awesome.
- Index 'resisting' Airport security was especially awesome.
- Inclusion of the Amakusa gossip was much appreciated.

See J.C staff? You can do it when you try
Meh, it's not J.C.Staff's fault that last arc was, and this season overall has been, boring. It's like all the worst novels are lumped in with each other back-to-back (vols 7-10, with the exception of 8 perhaps). Thankfully, hopefully, these last two arcs and three novels will make the latter half of this season far better than the former.

What's wrong with 7 ? I personally didn't think it was bad.

It wasn't bad per se', but wasn't as good as other arcs in Index S1.
