Junketsu no Maria (Maria the Virgin Witch)

Official site:
http://junketsu-maria.tv/

Synopsis
Quote:
Maria is a witch living during the Hundred Years' War between England and France. Our young heroine hates war, so to keep the people of the village she protects safe, Maria will use all the power at her disposal to stop the fighting, whether that means conjuring giant dragons or sending her succubus familiar out to mesmerize the warring generals with her charms. But what do the villagers think of her "help"? And what will happen if Heaven notices her interference into human affairs? This story has a funny touch with a little history thrown in.
Studio will be Production I.G.

I think this was announced awhile ago when the anime adaptation was green-lit but the news just recently popped up again. Scheduled to premiere 2015.

Very nice first episode and match my high expectation

Kodansha treat their manga adaption really well recently, Attack on Titan, Witch Craft Works, Sidonia, Seven Deadly Sins, and now this

Ep 1

Well, this was... a lot different from what I'd been expecting. A lot less silly (as in, not at all ), but I kind of liked it anyway. Also, I liked the music a lot!

One thing, though... If the writer goes out of his way to make 100 Yr War France the setting, and even attempts to make it vaguely authentic-like, why does he give English names to French people? Like Martha and Joseph (the English pronunciation), never mind Ivan (at least I hope he wasn't supposed to be Evan). There's Maria herself, too, but eh she's a witch so whatever.

Well. wikipedia sais that name "Joseph" appears in France as well. Martha should be Marthe, though, but it's not a big deal. "Ivan" is actually Yvaine

They're not spelled and pronounced the same everywhere...

"Joseph" is not pronounced the same in French as in English, although now that I think about it I guess it doesn't really matter in Japanese. And "Ywain".... :O I didn't even think of that!

Anyway, I was being facetious.

Well what can I say.... IM LOVING THIS ANIME

The animation was really good and appealing to my likings, though the mans werent drawn as good as the withches and womens in general
The background was perfect, the forest the village, 10/10
The history is really interesting, and if it trully focus of that war then i I will end liking this even more since I will be able to remember what I studied in history last year
The end(or op) was likeable too

Have high expectations in this one from now on, hope it doesnt dissapoint me later

Didn't expect much from the title but the show seems ok. The owl has good fashion sense. Maria seems like an OP witch. Other than that, not much comments until I see what the show brings.

Yep, they depict the war seriously. Functional Plate Armor that is not just for show (That's why they rather bash them with maces). Infantry taking cover from Longbow Arrows under Pavise Shields. Voulgiers, Halberdiers, Billmen and Pikemen advancing in Spearwall Formation.

The "armies" were really really really tiny, though. I know it's money and everything but it was like there were 50 people on the field.

But I also liked that they didn't show the arrows penetrating plate armor, there was a reason why people were using those. (Although there was a reason why people kept using longbows against armored knights, it's not like they couldn't do any damage whatsoever on the more lightly armed parts.) I wonder why they didn't shoot the horses...
