Suggest thread index sticky for fansubs forum

A sticky containing links to the general discussion threads for fansubbed series could be helpful as an index and quick-launch to get to the threads.

It could cut down on creation of duplicate threads. Now that a few current shows just got moved over it is likely that new threads for those series will pop up in fansubs pretty soon.

The list of series under discussion is very long and fills up a couple of pages in the forum view.

Starting up the sticky would take a fair amount of work, but it would be easy to maintain. Any work involved should be weighed against the work involved in grafting duplicate threads together or closing threads.

This idea can be used to index other forums - licensed anime is probably the second-best candidate.

Heh, I've been thinking of creating exactly that kind of sticky since about two weeks ago.

The reasons I've haven't done it yet is because...
(i) I'm lazy
(ii) It's a lot of work for no real gain (to me )
(iii) Deciding how to organise the list
(iv) I like closing and merging threads

But I will do it, starting with the Fansub forum.

Liar!
I also think it would be a nice idea
This might help a lot and gives less closing/merging works to the moderators

But I'm not sure if I should be pleased or annoyed because babbito2k has read my mind so perfectly (along with the pros and cons).

But it has at least meant I have to get off my butt and do something about it

Just to take some of the sting out of this, I volunteer to take on some of the workload. Figure out what structure you are going to use and let me know - we could split it up according to the alphabet.

One way to structure it would be to make each letter of the alphabet=one post. That way the initial post could contain links to each letter/post for easy navigation.

Thread indexing is already being used in the Fan Art and Naruto forums.

instead of making it just a forum-by forum thing, why not make it an anouncement, that would be alot more helpful, as you could access it from any subforum.

Not sure exactly what you imply by this but I don't see much advantage of listing a thread index for the Fansub Forum in places like General Chat, Playback Help, Naruto, etc., etc. It would just take up space on the browser, one of the reason we try and limit the number of stickies per forum in the first place.

Thread Indexes are only really relevant in the appropriate forum.

The index is already in its first incarnation; xris did it yesterday. The spring series are all indexed on there, and all the older series (which have a discussion thread to point to) will be on there eventually. It is worth taking a look just for laughs and to get used to going there - it is quicker and more precise than search.

I really like this idea since it'll make it alot easier to find the threads you need. But a suggestion can we split the list into two pieces : one for the recent series (and put this one on top) and one for the older ones. Just an idea since recent series are the ones you can expect to be needed the most

As mentioned by babbito2k and the thread itself.

Further series will be added to the index in alphabetical order at a later date.
Babbito2k has indexed over half of all the threads already and it's now up to me to finish the rest. What's delaying me is that it's taking me a lot longer than I expected (because for a start, I'm also tidying up the forum as I look at the threads one at a time (spent most of this morning just tidying up the 15 series starting with the letter "A")). Since there will be something like 300 entries I expect, then the index will be split up over 5 or so posts (not sure at the moment).

So the final thread will look like
1st post - Introduction
2nd onwards - Series Index A to Z (split over several posts)
Last post - Recent (i.e. current season) Series Index

At the moment, we only have the first and last post completed. Give me time

wow. Probably doesn't mean much to you, but both of you have got my compliments for undertaking a project that seems like such a pain in the butt voluntarily. It should be extremely helpful. Good job.
