Fate/stay night Game discussion (Warning: Spoilers)

Do all three routes. They each complement one another. You may not understand something that's in Heaven's Feel because you skipped Fate. Plus, it's part of the experience.

No, you need to read Fate. Even though it's the weakest route, it covers the basics of the war which the other routes assume you will know. You might be able to get away with skipping it if you've seen the anime, but even then it's probably safer not to, and you have to play Fate to get to the other two routes anyway.

But, yeah, I can't argue with you on that one. I think that's the only time I found myself getting a little annoyed at Sakura. I mean, yeah, I know he's her 'big brother' and everything, but can't she, just this once, recognise that he's really not someone she should be protecting. I love Sakura, and I love how nice she is, but in that scene she takes it just a little too far.

There were two decisions in the entirety of the game that I remember taking where I let my emotions override what I logically thought was the best option for getting the best ending. Once was with Saber, leading up to the last bad end of Fate, and the other one was that scene (I got the general jist of HF pretty damn quick, and it was obvious that killing Sakura or doing anything but trying my hardest to save her was only going to let Zouken win, so all the pro-Sakura decisions were logically the obvious ones to pick). I knew it was a bad idea to punch him, I knew Sakura would oppose it, and yet I picked that option anyway, because I wanted to give the fucker a good smack in the mouth, even if I lost a few Sakura points or even got a bad end for my troubles.

But, no, I pick that option, only for Sakura to stop me by saying "OK, Nii-san, I'll do what you say" before I could give the bastard a good smack. For fuck's sake, Nasu, why put that option there and then not let us go through with it? If it had been a bad end followed by Ilya and Taiga laughing at me for letting my emotions run away with things, then fine, I could live with that, but at least let me have the satisfaction of saying that I chose to hurt Shinji....

I don't think there's one person in the world who didn't choose to punch Shinji. Hell, I saved at that choice just in case the punching scene was really funny.

Now, that's what I call Player Punch. Even if they give you the punch option you can't really punch him. No matter what, both choices are "wrong".

Yeah, but prior to picking it, I expected to lose points for doing it, because it was such an obvious choice, and yet served no actual gameplay purpose, so I thought it was likely to be thrown in there as a trap for people who simply couldn't put logic before their emotions.

But, instead, it did nothing. Shinji didn't get hurt, or even humiliated (quite the opposite in fact), since Sakura submitted to him in order to calm him down before Shirou laid him out....

Why the hell did Nasu put that choice there, except to annoy people?

Well, I knew that was coming before I played it, so I knew what to do. I'm not sure what pick I'd have made if I'd not been aware, but Saber's death in HF never really hit me, because I was more bothered about Sakura, and Saber got a good ending in UBW anyway. Ilya's death was the one that got me, along with the Normal end.

It's not even so much that she died. She technically died in Fate and one of the UBW endings too, so I was used to losing Saber at the end. It's that they made me kill her. One of a handful of characters who got significant screentime in both of the previous routes, really letting me get to know her better than most of the rest of the cast. I really bonded with Saber over the course of the game, and Nasu not only made me click 'bring the knife down', but made is so that if I didn't, then Rin would suffer a fate worse than death and a cosmic horror would be unleashed on the world.

What's funny is that I know it's a bad end, but I didn't get the Tiger Stamp for it nor do I know what happened to Rin (don't tell me, I plan to get all of the stamps soon). I wonder if I glanced at the flow chart at some point and knew which was the wrong choice. I really don't know, lol.

I really need to finish off those stamps. I should have done it today since I was home sick.

Horray! I got my first bad ending, and it was totally worth it.

So I got to the point where Kotomine gives me the option of whether or not i want to take part in the Holy Grail War. No points for figuring out which one was the correct answer. I saved the game and picked the wrong one anyway just for the lulz and lulz indeed! Reading Beserker squash Shirou's body into a fine bloody paste so Illya can take his head home with her was epic.

Also, lol at the Taiga dojo.

Good luck finding 'em all! Between them, usually either the ending itself or the Tiger Dojo is worth it!

Well afterwards Saber does state that she'll have to kill him in order to survive but doesn't. I have to admit, it was actually a pretty sad scene.

Nope, Saber definitely expresses her disapproval, but says she's got some time before she fades away and goes off to try to find someone else to make a contract with. The first (and I think the second) bad end is all Illya/Berserker.

Boy, my memory is so bad. That's the one problem when you watch so much anime, read a lot of manga, and play a tremendous visual novel like F/SN. Oh, and there's real life too, haha.
