Was out having dinner with a friend so I missed the start. First thing I saw though was filler so that didn't get my hopes up. That was followed by more filler, and more filler... then Gaara vs Deidara then more filler... Then the end of the Gaara fight was followed by Iruka at the academy teaching us what a mission is.
Kankurou and a string of filler characters follow after Deidara and Sasori, the filler characters bite it. Then a filler scene of Naruto returning to his apartment. Then more sand filler, as Kankurou saves two of the filler characters. And the laugh of the day, as Kankurou is trying to find out in which direction they went, he picks up some sand (in the desert) and goes "Gaara's sand, huh..." and heads off in that direction. What follows is basically manga scenes though elongated through slowed down pace and little spinkles of filler. Then some Konoha filler with Kakashi, Temari and Shikamaru. (So don't get your hopes up just yet Temari x Shika fans.
) It's also funny how Temari says she wants to return as fast as she can, then sets off walking (it's not like we haven't seen ninjas move about faster than that). Then some filler with Naruto and Sakura dressing.
Then finally Kankurou catches up to Deidara and Sasori. But then back to Konoha where Kakashi meets up with Naruto and Sakura. Action back to Kankurou who reveals his three puppets. Deidara smirks and lets Sasori finish him off. Sasori promptly stops one of Kankurou's puppets flying after Deidara with a large tail coming out from his Akatsuki cloak. Episode ends.
I remember people joking about this episode only covering up to when Naruto & Co get their new mission, I am, however, sorry to say it didn't get even that far.
From the preview, we have more filler coming our way next week. I am reminded time and time again how awsome Naruto could be without filler (because there are some nice moments mixed in with all those scenes that add absolutely nothing to the plot), and it just makes the dissapointment all the bigger. I can understand if anime exclusives find the filler scenes harmless, but the story just moves along so sloooooowly...
