I think it was a wonderful series for the 13 Episodes it was, Of course 24 episodes could have made it an even greater series but why dwell on what could have happened and instead focus on the wonderfully touching ending it gave us!

i liked the hypnotists dudes personality it was so hilarious. when he was fighting those shadows he comes out with 2 pistols and starts shooting and saying bow before me is HILARIOUS. i had such a emptey and sad feeling in my heart when he left. he was my fav character -.-. sigh. and yes i repeated what i said because i made a spelling error in my earlier post and no point in editing it once everyone has read it lol. Kanades kawaii <3 personality finally shows in episode 13. HORRAYYYYY. and i miss yui.... her disaperence was almost as sad as the ending. i cried so much on that ep.... Love live the afterlife battlefront... and Yuri looks and acts so much like haruhi in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

I don't get the hate. I found the ending to be very beautiful. Perhaps that Yuri's grand finale was a bit bland by just saying 'Hope to see you again somewhere! *vanish*' but alright, no real problems for me. The Otonashi/Kanade scene had a pretty cruel end with her just disappearing, even though he literally begged her not to. If you hadn't seen the short epilogue after the credits you would've seriously thought Otonashi just had a bad ending there. And even though I'm not completely satisfied with the ending, because it does leave me a little bit empty for some reason, I have to say that all-around this was a really great series.
Good job, Jun Maeda. |

I agree with this totally. I feel like if this was longer and they added more detail, this would be a truly great series, but for me it's just good. It's quite disappointing really, when you consider the animation and music were top-notch in this series. As far as the ending itself, I felt it was appropriate, but I also felt it was rushed and at the same time a letdown given the previous episode. I also didn't like that they decided to obliterate most of the characters w/o much explanation in the last episode, so that they could focus on just the few that got the most screen time. It felt kinda cheap and lazy to me :S |

I don't get this Otonashi died before Kanade then but in the afterlife it seemed like she was there as the president for a long time. How does that work? Does time and order of death not affect that world cause shouldn't Otonashi be there first as his organs saved and prolonged Kanade's life for a while longer?

Just got around to watching 13 and though I did initially find her heartless otonashi confession rather illogical but then I had an epiphany on where maeda was going with that.
Otonashi was sent to that world because Kanade was waiting for him. The point of the world is that the kids get to resolve their regrets and judging from how long Kanade's been waiting, the system decided to take measures for her regret to get fixed since Otonashi meeting her was the only way for her to move on hence him coming there, not because he's a bug but because he's necessary for kanade. It would have been a lot easier to figure that out if the director remembered to foreshadow it more though. |

I suppose in the end it doesn't really matter since this sort of story has endless possibilities and explanations due to the vagueness of the afterlife in the world of Angel Beats. In the end, the nicest part is that it at least had some closure unlike a lot of good anime I've watched. Though frankly, I think Otonashi running an additional ten or fifteen feet and then randomly turning around, running back, and touching her shoulder seems a little... Strange. It's not the way I'd meat meet a girl, Otonashi.
