Well, I assumed that a dead butterfly would mean that he's dead, not an alive one but what do i care, i hope he's dead too. I say they kinda have too many charectors anyway.

It seems very likely that he is dead and when they get back from the mission they will come carryin the body of Chouji. I think this because if he wasnt dead, usually they would just show him collapsing but they had that whole recap scene where he remembers how shika was nice to him and shit. Then the butterfly crap. Also, it seems only logical that someone dies to show the true danger of these missions. Another thing is that since chouji and shika seems to like Ino, i think its natural to take 1 out in battle so there is no triangle love shit with secondary characters.

He's dead because if not all the point about the pills is stupid.

He's dead because his own name in japanese can mean something like funeral oration or letter of condolence.

There's always a chance Chouji might be alive. Why? Because it's not really our manga to decide who lives or dies. Maybe chuoji really is dead and that would suck. But if he is dead then I'm satisfied.

If he was gonna die I dont think he would say so. Plus what would be the point of making him skinny. I think he just fainted from exhaustion and hunger. The moves he uses require alot of calories. He is also known to exaggerate (especially in his eating portions). heh.

Anyway I think that it's more rewarding to live then to die when you're just starting out your life. I'm pretty sure Chuoji would rather live then die as well.

None of the nine rookie genin died so far and i don't see why it would start now. Like someone said Choji must have fainted cause of lack of energie and chakra. Just give him a big peace of meat and he'll be as good as new.
