What was your favorite death in an anime? The tragic, the saddest, the dumbest...

Saddest - Misato from EVA.
Dumbest - Cher from Wolf's Rain... God was that stupid...
Tragic - ...I don't know... not many people die in animes really

Concerning NATHATH, Saikano, Excel Saga

sad - Lalaru (and some other charas from NATHATH)
tragic - Shise (in Saikano) I know she isn't dead realy, but at least physically
funny - Excel (from Excel Saga)

But I thought Lalaru didn't really die... she just disappeared? She's so mysterious and ethereal that nobody really knows. But I agree, I was VERY sad when she disappeared. Very, very sad. Since I first watched it when I was 11 up till now...

I didn't really have much feelings for SaiKano so I didn't care if Chise died or not, though I was fairly sad when Akemi died...

However, there are some pretty sad bits in Rurouni Kenshin (OVA 1 and 2)

When Tomoe died, that was just so goddamned sad... watch it and see...
But I swear I suffered from Kenshin withdrawal symptoms when Kenshin HIMSELF died of a PURELY SHITTY REASON in OVA 2. Fuck. They killed off my FAVOURITE character by throwing on a totally off-character storyline onto him. GAH!

Another tragic one would be the Grave of the Fireflies one...

I dunno if this counts but in Princess Mononoke...

Death of the forest Nah, just kidding, it did come back in the end. It was a bit cheesy, I'll say, when Ashitaka and San came alive all god-like in the end but well, it could have been a LOT cheesier and I'm glad it wasn't.

And well, this probably doesn't count either but in Princess Tutu...

The.. "death" of Princess Tutu. Because Ahiru could never turn back into the girl Ahiru or into Princess Tutu anymore... and so on... isn't it amazing how a mere duck can take it when the person she loves so much goes and chooses someone else? Ah, such innocence. I feel so sad thinking about it.

Kenshin's death. Sniff sniff!!!! I thought it was even more sad because he had gone wandering again even though he was married to Kaoru. It's understandable, but sTILL!

Fushigi Yuugi

Almost all the characters died in this show!!! Sigh .. but the most tragic was Nuriko's death. He looked good when he decided to be a man again.

Evangelion

Misato's death was quite tragic. Everyone was so lost in the end.

Naruto

Sandaime's death. It's even worse cuz now he's in some sort of purgatory eternally. Also .. cuz he kept saying that his family was all the people of Konoha. Aww .. =*) .. his death was very dramatic.

Anouncing the titles is spoiling too, since everybody knows than, that there will die a character... most likely a well known one.
There are always some trade-offs. That does not mean I did not think or care about the matter.

i thought the death of tsubasa was very emotional. ppl say that being identical twins is the closest two ppl can be (excepting conjoined twins of course!). hikaru, having 'half' of herself taken away like that... very sad, they were getting on so well, encouraging each other to pull through when times were difficult. she didn't even die properly, just vanished. i imagine that she felt like half of herself had gone too.

Sappiest Death: Fushigi Yugi

Hotohori or whatever the emperor's name was. he spent rought 15 minutes dying (7 minutes of flashbacks, 7 minutes of last words, 1 minute pan-away)

biggest-slap-in-the-face death: Martian Successor Nadesico

this is the only show i've ever seen that introduces you to a character, establishes connections between him/her and the rest of the cast, and then kills them off shortly after (Gai, Tsukumo, and the replacement pilot (she was the shortest lived supporting character in anime history i swear, and she died for absolutely nothing)
