Episode 1 was great. All I can say is vintage Kyoani. I got big Lucky Star vibes from the first episode. Just the way the episode went strongly reminded me of Lucky Star. That being said, this show is hilarious. The characters are zany and over the top, and I love the crazy humor. There were two times when I actually laughed out loud. The first one was when Mio had that fantasy scene. The second really funny scene is when we found out about the function of Nano's key.
Overall I really got a good impression and was genuinely entertained. This has the potential to be one of the best comedy series I've seen in a long time.

I absolutely adored the 00 episode and wow, the first episode just piling on the amazing animation inbetween (or even adding some segments, prolonging the jokes) is incredible.
I hope it's a nice balance between the slower existential comedy and the manic one. LOVE it! Musically, it seems all over the place, but maybe suitably so. |

Like an unfunny version of PPD...Widget comedy only works when you have good strong characters and none of the ones in the first episode stood out even remotely.
At least it was so terrible right from the start I know not to try and waste my time watching any more episodes hoping for it to get better later on...

O man this episode totally caught me off guard. It started off somewhat boring but then that random nuclear explosion just made laugh my ass off. I also especially loved that flying sausage scene. I live by the three second rule too And of course the animation is flawless, as expected of KyoAni.

Well, what can be said after the first episode? Despite the "simple art" the visuals manage to really impress, the directing is top-notch (as expected from Ishihara Tatsuya) and that sausage scene was truly awesome.

Speaking of the style of comedy, I think it's borderline absurdist/existential/gag type, not something that comes straight out with something funny all the time.
If you read the manga and try to analyze it, there's always one singular emotion Yuuko exhibits and they run a weird, absurd gag around her. Same with the robot Nano. It feels much more like Cromartie High than some other existential comedies like Azumanga and Lucky Star. Much heavier on the existentialism. |

I found the first episode to be as expected excellent work once more from KyoAni. The characters even in the first episode are likeable, even the eldest son in the farming family is an awesome character. Riding a goat to school, damn that's amazing.
