Why would they? They all went back to playing Simcity 4 instead

Yeah, that is the more likely reason. The attempt to turn it into the next The Sims with a dozens expansions have failed. And with The Sims 4 coming out, they don't want Simcity2013 around anymore.

I don't think it matters whether Sims 4 is coming out or not and probably more likely to do with the lack(?) of profit from Simcity. EA is pretty aggressive at culling games that are no longer profitable which is why i've gone back to finishing up SWTOR before EA decides to stop renewing the SW license just like what happened with Warhammer Online.

That's what I've always said about games like these when people start freaking out about online connection and say that they can only play so long as the server is around.

There's nothing to stop the devs from creating a patch to ensure offline play if their servers, that's for the online use, are taken down.

Can't say the same for online games like WOW or Warhammer online but for games like Simcity that clearly are just single player....

To be fair, Maxis' output have been pretty mediocre to bad for quite a long time. Spore was a flop, Simcity became a consistent joke and they are not in charge of the Sims series for awhile now.

It's sad but post-Will Wright Maxis just isn't the same as before.

Typical EA. Buy a studio, impose stupid sanction on what a game needs, then close the studio when it inevitably fails.
