I think its 100% that Sousuke loves Kaname. Its only that he realize his own feelings very slowly, because he never had a normal family, he didnt see what IS love, he didnt even understood the meaning of it. She do like Tessa, but thats not love. He firstly felt something more about Kaname, and he thought thats nothing more than job, "protecting". But he slowly understand that he loves Kaname, but he didnt even realize, that Kaname loves him too! Thats because Kaname never dared telling him her feelings, and Sousuke wasnt able to realize it from Kaname's little implications. Thats not because hes stupid, its because of that he never had a normal childhood. Like he says it in the scene with the prostitute in TSR: "I dont know how to smile, i just know how to fight". Thats the most sad thing in all the story. And it a little bit about how "war" ruins peoples life and stands between love.

VOLUME 12: "Odoru Very Merry Christmas" actual quote Tessa: "Sagara-san" Sousuke: "Yes, ma'am" Tessa: "Do you love Kaname-san?" Sousuke: "....I believe it is affirmative to say so." Tessa: "More than me?" Sousuke: [long pause] "Yes" |

I agree. It was obvious from the very beginning that Tessa+Sousuke was never on the table. Their interraction is there to create tension and to produce comic situations - not only between Sousuke and Tessa themselves, but also between Kaname and Tessa. Maybe there's more to her feelings towards Sousuke than just that, and I think that Sousuke really cares about Tessa (not only as a friend) but the chemistry between Sousuke and Kaname is far greater. At least that's my two cents.

you guys are so morbid i never thought they would kill either off. what just cause people have been doing it more recently you all think its gonna happen.
Gatou's not going to end it like that. if he is any good of a writer (which he is) hes not going to end one of his first big mangas with a morbid ending its bad for reputation. think about it honestly would you want to watch another anime from a guy who leads you to think its going to be a happy ending and then slams you at the end. everyone like happy endings. this story has been a generally happy one through out and its going to end happy. just wait and see. plus a majority of Shōnen end happy because the stories are aimed at teenagers, there not going to sell teenagers morbid stories and the ones who do, you don't really see there name very often cause people dislike bad endings. |

I am not saying they will all die, but of the main five, I think one will. Because that death would be a great spark for the others to fight. Souske cares for all four of his friends. If one dies he will slip into a rage mode and that will allow him to beat whatever mech he is fighting.

Kaname is not one of Sousuke's comrades. She is his charge, his to protect and guard with his life. If she died, as Sousuke thought she did, he would have failed both himself and his mission. Not to mention the end of any chance he had of a normal life (and love, for that matter). On the other hand, Mao or Kurtz or even Tessa's deaths would probably make Sousuke angry instead of depressed. It's not his job to keep them alive, per se (though it is his duty to watch their backs), so he wouldn't really "fail" to achieve any objective if they died. Thus he would have no reason to be depressed immediately after the death of a comrade (perhaps later, at their funeral). He would most likely become extremely angry. Just my two yen, though I agree with Otakon that FMP! will most likely end happily. I think the vast majority of you guys are setting yourselves up so you won't be shocked if it ends sadly and to be shocked if it ends happily. Good idea, to be brutally honest.
