Kaiten!!
 Kaiten is a one-shot published by Katsura Hoshino, whose current manga is D.Gray-Man, serialized in Jump Square on June 15th, 2011. This one-shot basically spoofs and parodies both the super sentai hero genre and the giant monster genre from Japanese TV shows and films. The setting takes place in a dystopian Japan in the near future where an evil organization known as GAMSHACK makes use of kaiju (monsters) to bully and terrorize the local population. To combat the threat several, independent districts throughout Japan sponsor Hero squads for protection and rescue. The Sentai heroes themselves are gifted with either natural powers or technology to transform into their Heroic forms to do battle against the Kaiju. The Kaiju themselves come in all shapes and sizes from giant beasts to human based beings. GAMSHACK employs both types of Kaiju and is led by the Master whose sole goal is to fulfill the conquest of all Japan. A certain day after the Master and his minions successfully terrorized another district, his right-hand woman, Piro-Paya, hands him her literal resignation letter commenting that she's become tired of leading the life of a villainess and wants to turn the page in her life by wanting to become a Heroine much to the comical shock of the Master and his cronies. Then, the rest of the one-shot follows Piro-Paya and her pet Kaiju, Tsukuro, a one-eyeball jellyfish, wandering the downtown of Kameari district searching the newspaper ads for a squadron which could taker her in as their Pink Heroine. Later, she meets Red Kotaro whose Sentai Hero identity is Kaiten Red. However, Kotaro suffers an unusual syndrome which causes him to literally self-destruct when his body cannot cope to insurmountable stress and anxiety. The symptoms are triggered whenever he draws people's attention onto himself and gets crowded by people. Ironically, the same symptom is not triggered when he's before the presence of Kaiju. That twist makes Piro-Paya the ideal fit for Kotaro to take her into his hero squadron as his Pink Kaiten member, because she later reveals to him that she's a Kaiju with insane strength. From my personal perspective, Hoshino-sensei does wonders with the artwork but sometimes I got lost trying to follow the flow of the story, as it is common with all her works. The story is pure comedy mixed into battle shounen. The main characters look to be at their very late-teens or early 20's, and they are modeled right after characters from Hoshino-sensei other works. - Red Kotaro is both a nod and based from the design of Kanda Yuu. - Piro-Paya shares a few attributes with Lenali Lee. That includes the build, ratio, and slenderness of how detailed Hoshino-sensei drew her legs. Interesting to note is that two of the most iconic characters in the Hoshinoverse do not make appearances at all (not even cameos) in this one-shot story: - They are the Earl and Yoshi, the pink rabbit.
