Trophies can't compete with PC mods and texture packs. It's not even a contest; Skyrim would be updated for years to come, while trophies come and go.

Seriously, Bethesda does not have the resources or the time to fully flesh out the game. All they can hope to do is to build a functional skeleton on which the mod community can do new and wonderful things.

Whats the point of them? seriously.. "Oh hey I did that, yea but I didn't get a trophy for it"

just feels like a little kid getting a fake award for hula hooping for 30 seconds straight.

Even though I love to go after trophies, I much prefer the PC version since there are unlimited possibilities of continuous playtime from Vallen Chaos Valiant's reasons. I'll take longer playability then a short-triumphed trophy rush.

Yeah, mods and texture tinkering wins easily.

It costs the same as the 560Ti, the same power but has the big advantage of extra memory which will makes a big difference in some games or applications, it also quieter, draws less power and can easily be unlocked to 6970 levels.

I meet the recommended specs, except for my GPU (a Radeon HD 5750). However, it is closer to the recommended cards than to the minimum requirement cards. I am guessing I can play the game on High at 720p, and a combination of High and Medium settings at 1080p.

ah, thanks... I'd forgotten about Tom's chart. I have a 9600GT which has been serviceable but yeah... time for multi-step upgrade.

Here, let me brainwash convince you:

Quote:
Radeon HD 6950 2 GB (Check Prices)

Excellent 1920x1200 performance, Good 2560x1600 performance in most games with lowered detail

Radeon HD 6950 2 GB
Codename: "Cayman"
Process: 40 nm
Universal Shaders: 1408
Texture Units: 88
ROPs: 32
Memory Bus: 256-bit
Core Speed MHz: 800
Memory Speed MHz: 1250 (5000 effective)
DirectX/Shader Model: DX 11/SM 5.0
Max TDP: 200 W
100312-3SR Radeon HD...
Amazon.com$264.99
TigerDirect$269.99
The Radeon HD 6950 offers similar performance as AMD's previous-generation single-GPU flagship, the Radeon HD 5870. A pair of these cards in CrossFire are a force to be reckoned with, as the company noticeably improved scaling compared to some of its previous efforts.

There's another reason to consider this model. Many folks have had luck modding this board into a fully-functional Radeon HD 6970 through a firmware update. If you can pull that off, the value of the 2 GB Radeon HD 6950 seems pretty clear.
Plus, with 2GB of memory you will see a big advantage when it comes to texture packs.

Yeah, I'm noticed 2GB is starting to be the 'leading edge' rather than 1 GB -- incomprehensible amounts of room for textures, etc.

The GTX 560 Ti has more OCing headroom, 950mhz is a pretty reasonable goal to aim for. With luck you can hit as high as 1ghz.

Until you can exchange trophies or points for DLC or other goodies, I cannot be bothered. PC all the way, higher frame rate, mod-able, less expensive and you can still play it on a new or upgraded system. Besides it is using steamworks/steam, so you get your achievements, if it is important for you

I would go for the a 560TI, you can get 2GB versions now, btw.

Yeah i noticed there was a 2GB version of the 560... I dont have any particular fondness of ATI or Nvidia but I tend to keep all my computers in the same component families for management simplicity.

I just went through my hardware setup on the ageing laptop. Looks I am confirmed to be safe to play it.

Not easy to find a major new game that actually runs properly for me these days.

I've always stuck with nvidia, no real reason other than it hasn't failed so far.
(except that one forceware release that caused massive overheats)

560ti is at least living up to the OC hype. I haven't felt the need to overclock yet, but I gave it a try now anyways. With just one press of a button:

Might even go higher if I raise the volts. Photobucket is quite terrible.

Oh, and since this topic was about Skyrim:

The 560ti 2gb is harder to find and about 30 dollars more expensive. It also a little bit slower than the 6950. But yeah, in the end what really matters is which product makes you feel more comfortable.

Or just get GTX580.

Ps. There are achievements on PC so you should get the PC version. Even if there wasn't and PS3 version had hundreds of trophies, you still should get PC version. Mods are the way to go to improve the game and add more content. The game like previous Elder Scrolls have been made with the community modding in mind.

(The achievements on PC are on Steam, and the game is Steamworks so you need to use Steam to play Skyrim)

Keep in mind that CPUs matters too.

$500 GPU, requires a $400~500 CPU and so on.
My Q8400 really held back my 5850, until I replaced it with a Q9650...gained much more stability and 10~20+ fps or so in most games.

Barbaric. btw 5850's still a hella good card , consider getting one if your budget is low.
