1. Jon Sumisu.
2. Um, actually, it was, unless my knowledge is completely and totally false, which it shouldn't be.

It's just an icon of an obviously fake name that was clearly made up on the spot with no effort. Besides, it's not like Kyon's fake name was Janu Sumithu in the Japanese version, it was whatever the most common Japanese name was. Likewise, in Swedish, it would be replaced with the most common male Sweden name. So if they're going for meaning, not specifically the name John Smith, then we go for meaning, not specifically the genderbent equivalent of John Smith. So it should be Mary Smith.
Er...I may be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure Kyon DID use "John Smith", specifically. Evidence (albeit from a wiki): "John Smith (ジョン・スミス, Jon Sumisu?) is a fake name used by Kyon in a time travel." Source: http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclop...yon#John_Smith

EDIT: Oh, vivify93 beat me to it.

Yes, it was John Smith in the original. He just picked a name that was obviously fake.

My vote is for Jane Smith.

Jane is probably fine, I just don't run into all that many Janes anymore. On the other hand, Mary is getting less popular as well.

On another thought from a different thread...Kyon-chan wouldn't be about to be classified as a A-class girl on Taniguchi's list: we don't know her full name, thus is sort of defeats the grading system.

WE don't know her full name, but if male Taniguchi ever saw her I'm pretty certain he'd try to learn it very quickly.

Also, I don't run into that many Johns or Jacks either. That isn't the point.

Also, Kyonko is obviously Japanese, or at least East Asian, so it would be unlikely that Jane Smith would be her actual name.

That aspect is one thing that really annoyed me about this one fanfic a found. Someone decided to do a Doctor Who crossover, and since the good doctor uses John Smith as an alias, could result in a case of mistaken identities...completely ignoring the fact that every incarnation of the doctor has been a cracker.

The lack of common sense of some FF.net writers is astounding.

Personally, I'd prefer Joan Smith. More phonetically similar to John; and thanks to the French saint, I believe would appear more readily to the Japanese mind.

I haven't actually watched the series, but is there anything in the Doctor Who universe preventing an incarnation of the Doctor from being Japanese in appearance? (Not talking about what it's actually like in the show because of casting choices, but going solely by in-universe laws.)

Aren't all the Doctors the same person? It's not hard to imagine a white guy only wanting to be a white guy. Or something like that.

This being a PG13 rated forum and all, I still wonder:

Why hasn't any doujinshi artist done a crossover universe series in which the originals meet their gender-flipped counterparts, called something in the lines of "Playing With Yourself."

I mean, that would be FIVE Doujinshis with just the core S.O.S cast alone.

Oh? Well in light of this new evidence, I agree, Jane or Joan Smith is the better option. Between Jane or Joan though, I don't know.

Excellent!! A supporter for the "Play With Yourself" Doujinshi series!!

Not that it matters when the doujinshis are being used for their primary stimulatory functions, but just for fun:

When the S.O.S - dan "play with themselves"

1) Would it count as Glorified Masturbation?
2) Or Incest perhaps?
3) How would the hypothetical offspring turn out?

Let the laughter begin!!

Twincest <-

Also, don't get ideas into my mind. I'm a very easily influenced artist. . >>

Regardless, my votes for Jane, though Joan wouldn't be a bad choice either. As long as it's not Mary.

That one was just planned to be Kyon and Kyonko getting it on a whole bunch of times, with a brief recharge by Yuki. I think there was a problem with the artist who was found for it.

Actually, I think it's technically selfcest, but yeah, we like to call it twincest here. Because of the freaky tsuji universe that reminds me of Futakoi.

Speaking of twincest, Danchou and I had a new idea for the Seitenkan Cosplay Division:

KissXSis.

Make of that what you will.
