I agree that the cliffhanger is unnecessary. I know where it's going and it double kills me to have the anime stop there for this episode. I feel this episode is a bit rushed, for now, as I really can't judge without the subbed version. But, it's definitely missing some details compared to the novel (even to the summary of the novel I read), And based on the preview for next episode, it seemed the ending will also be a bit rushed. Oh, well. I hope the continue the series as OVA. That way, it could be longer for each episode.

I loved the episode. At first I was ticked off that they were going to stretch out the choice of Touko so long, but then I realized that we needed the time to actually get closer to being inside Touko's feelings. And the cliffhanger isn't over what the result will be, but how we get there, so I accepted it.
And although I haven't read the novels, the slow pace makes me think that they are planning another season -- which would be a good thing, considering how well this season has gone. I hope the ratings and sales justify it.

So disappointing and I don't think it's because I read novels before. Even I knew ARIA's ending from manga , I still satisfied with Anime.
What the heck with this episode's ending while INSERT SPOILER on the preview!!!!???? They made the ending to make us curious who will win the red card ,right? AND THEY REVEAL ON THE PREVIEW THAT WHO WILL GO DATING WITH YUMI. The date from 1st season splitted into 2 episodes but this time they cut out Shimako's and Yoshino's to fit in 1 episode. It's simply a suicide for this season's team. I prefer Yukihiro Matsushita than this Katou Yoshiyuki. I'm disappointed with this season , they cut and cut like they're in formula-1 racing. (and can you get 1st rank now?) |

It's not surprising that people who are aware of the original material are somewhat disappointed. But from a anime-only perspective, it doesn't seem that bad, at least, to me.
But I do agree with the previews giving away a little too much at times, regardless of whether the answer is obvious or not. My favorite performance of last week was hands down Touko-- Rie Kugiyama was powerful. My favorite this week is Noriko for her emotional encouragement to Touko. |

Yeah, it's true that the viewers in Japan (and some of us on this board) have the advantage of having read the books... I suppose if you have that advantage, you can just look at it as "animated highlights from the books," but if you haven't read the books, you're missing some fun stuff. It's just a shame that they had to rush through so much stuff.
That said, there were some nice little nuggets in the episode... Spoiler for ep 12:

Awww... This series is about to come to an end. I will sorely miss this.
Touko has improved as of late, but still to not where I would love her like the other characters. I have learned to accept her. As for where Yumi's red card is Spoiler for Guess for where the red card is:
Sachiko figured it out and would have taken it first, but I guess she will give way to Touko. Afterall, Sachiko can have a FULL day date with Yumi at any time, not a HALF date that the card will result in. I love this series. I will be brought to tears soon when it ends, but all good things must come to an end. As some had mentioned, there might be an OVA later, so I'll look forward to that. Better yet, if they made a movie for the ending. I wonder though, who is going to win the white Rose card?

Before I read the novel readers and other naysayers comments which will describe in all detail how much this episode skipped, and make me feel like a fool for liking the episode, I want to say I liked this episode quite a bit. Sure, the pace S1,2 and 3 got us used to wasn't there, but for an emotional roller coaster like this episode it worked excellently, much better than what a slow paced episode would have achieved (and I'm normally someone who likes slow paced series!).
a 10/10 from truly yours. I would kill to have the patience to read the novels. I mean, I may be able to grab a kanji dictionary and crawl through all the 30 books, but as someone used to fast paced reading i just can't stand it >_< Quote:

9/10 from me.
Spoiler tags should be needed no longer. Great episode. There was a nice even balance between internal and external conflict and action. Going through the events of the card-hunt, Touko's feelings, Noriko's friendship and Sachiko's thoughts on the whole thing was really nice. Looses points for the slightly cheap cliffhanger ending. I am hoping that the series continues. It's one of my favourite character study anime and after four seasons, you tend to want to see how everyone changes over time. Lots of love for the romantic girlyness of Yumi's delusions; self-parody for the win! |

I only need one image:
Spoiler for Screenshot from the episode:
And we cannot forget the brownie points to Noriko; for opening Touko's heart and prodding her to look deep inside on how Touko herself thinks of Yumi. I don't fully remember the words, but "the single thing that matters most between souers, is how much you like each other." I also thought the preview spoiler was silly, but season 4 previews have been quite spoilery, anyway..

Ah, c'mon, was anyone in any doubt that you know who would you know what with you know whom before becoming you know whom's you know what? A true spoiler for those who have not read the novels would be
Spoiler for ep12 climax:
... because after all in Marimite the plot is only a hook on which to hang character development. |
