Yeah, because the only other choice would've been Flay. And that would just be wrong, especially when Rau reminds Flay of her dad.

That's nothing compared to what she does to him in Destiny, just no concern over him being injured.

I think Lacus just got tired of Athrun's indecisiveness.

Anyway, I was looking over the GundamOfficial timeline, and they really went through lots of time skips and out of order in some cases.

Ex:

04/17 - Strike vs. Aegis
04/18 - Athrun found

04/21 - Malchio brought Kira to Lacus's house

05/05 - Kira stole the Freedom

05/08 - Kira arrived at Alaska

Ah, I remember that. Also, Athrun was kinda pissed off and said (more or less): “Am I just a tool for you?!”. Still, considering the situation, I can understand Lacus passively asking Athrun for help coz Kira was being gang-up by Legend & Destiny, and if Kira lost, they’re all screwed.

The naked figure is pretty clearly Murrue now, but I think that was a change, since I remember the figure being more tranparent and you couldn't really see the face.

Other changes to the OP beyond the usual adding names to the MS's are....

During the Kira and Lacus touch scene the background shows a scene of Kira and Lacus. In the original it was the Strike's various configurations doing stuff.

Also Rau's now using Providence to fight Mwu, in the Perfect Strike while in the original it was his Guaiz vs Aile Strike.

Speaking of that, I didn't see any reason why Mu would not use the Perfect Strike, but he used the Aile Strike this episode. So maybe Mu will use the Launcher Strike at Mendel, lose to Rau, and then switch back to Perfect Strike for the final battle. Then again, someone mentioned Perfect Strike not having the shield? I didn't notice that. Hmm...

I think it was more like they forgot to redraw this scene with Perfect Strike considering how small it is.

I found it funny the look Athrun gave Lacus when the ship was fight and she fell into him. Even he felt something was different. Way to go bridejacker.

Or that it wasn't necessary/needed especially for this particular episode.

Likely Scenario: Mwu still Pilots Launcher Strike and loses against Rau at mendel. Mwu now needing to upgrade to a more appropriate, better equipped Perfect Strike, to fair a better chance especially now against Rau's Providence.

I mean they can't have him lose against Rau piloting his custom guaiz against Mwu's perfect strike.Then what would that make the Providence vs Perfect Strike look like, if he already lost to a GuAIZ.

If Mu beats Rau at Mendel then they have to change a whole lot more than just the fight, such as Mu's injury and Rau's lack of an injury after the chase into Mendel. Unlikely that they'll change the victor at this point.

Actually, yeah, Mu would have to lose, otherwise, Rau would not go to the laboratory.

He'll still have to use the Launcher. It was the main reason he lost in the first place since as he mentions it is terrible equipment for one on one MS aerial combat.
