Recommend me some anime!
Favorites:
Yakitate!! Japan - very funny, original, much attention to detail, yeah its about bread but somehow its AWESOME Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor - Dark, more serious sci-fi. Visually great, attention to detail, cool story, wheres the next season?! Kenshin - pretty great all around, the 2nd season was esp awesome. Not so much the 3rd. Claymore - Dark, really great action and story. Didnt cop out and go for cheap fanservice. Bleach/Naruto (mangas) - mangas were good until I stopped following, the animes just didnt seem as good with too much filler. Likes: Ah! My Goddess/Love Hina - Yeah theyre REALLY sappy but they ARE very well done. Black Lagoon - shit blowing up, 2nd seaon got a little weird, story coulda been deeper, mafia/crime/underworld. Hellsing Ultimate - awesome action, little bit of religious zeal, I hope they keep em coming. Spriggan/Battle Angel Alita - badass super soldier, awesome action - although Spriggan's story was a little weird. Appleseed - Great style and action without going overboard on the psychology. Cowboy Bebop/Samurai Champloo - looked great, really COOL, and so much style, story coulda been more fleshed out though. Full Metal Alchemist - visually nice, cool action/premise, story got a little crazy at the end but its okay. Full Metal Panic! - beautiful animation, fun, but with lots of shit blowing up too, some hot girls. Desert Punk - Interesting post apocalyptic setting, good action, some funny moments. (TERRIBLE live action intro though) Welcome to the NHK - Interesting, realistic show with some harsh truths. A good warning to ppl who watch too much anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - not the best ever but still a pretty fun action series Dislikes: Mnemosyne - Good action and interesting premise but random pointless sex scenes ruins it. Elfen Lied - Visually lackluster, just awful all around. Yeah its violent but that doesnt make it good. GITS/GANTZ - visually good but just too damn weird. Evangelion/Gungrave/Trigun/Ergo Proxy/RahXephon - Started out really great/cool/interesting but got all stupid/weird/psycho at the end which was disappointing. Macross - Dont need music videos in my anime just ass kicking please. Ikki Tousen - Okay style, copious fanservice, but weak action and storytelling. Speed Grapher - Two words: "spider dentist." WTF was that shit? Watching: Soul Eater - Fun, quirky, but still with nice action. Blade of the Immortal - dark and mixing it up with stuff besides the standard samurai swords. Hopefully they dont overboard with the slight fantasy angle and porn (from the intro). Im sure there are more but this list is already pretty long and I could see people just giving up once they see the wall of text. Let the flaming (and hopefully some good recommendations) begin! From the recent shows, try: Armored Trooper Votoms, True Tears, also Macross Frontier when it resumes.
Older/Finishes: Murder Princess (short), Higurashi, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Soukou no Strain
Can't really tell unless you give us details on what you like.

Second Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
Also consider Shakugan no Shana: it has a good bit of fighting, a second season currently in production, and is pretty popular. You may not like it since it's a character-driven romance, though, but I liken it to what Full Metal Panic! was like, except without mecha and role reversal. Also Air if you considered Fullmetal Alchemist to be visually sharp and Full Metal Panic!('s sequels, I'm assuming) to have had great animation (which they do.) |

Thirding Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Your tastes seem to be extremely close to my own. If you want a list of stuff I liked, look here: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=61088. It my suggestion thread, and I think you might be interested in some stuff. Or a lot of stuff, I hope.

Tried some Code Geass, I remember seeing the first couple I think but didnt keep up with it. Since its completed now I think Ill give it another shot.
Also tried Noein. I like how its semibased on science but the "normal" segments of it are so slow. I hope it picks up and doesnt get all psycho later on. EDIT: Okay it didnt get TOO psycho on me which was good. Overall good but not amazing. Last edited by 9mmx19; 2008-02-06 at 22:55. |

Baccano! - if you like mafia, some violent scenes and hilarious moments, this is for you
Gungrave - also a mafia anime, excellent character development Shura no Toki - cool martial arts and fighting scenes, and yes, they are in detail Ai Yori Aoshi - if you liked the sappiness in Ah my goddess, i think this is more than enough Lamune - same as above Darker than Black - also an anime where everyone looks cool, pretty good action too |

Finished Tengen. Was surprised at how much material it covered. Other animes might have stretched into 2 or even 3 seasons. Had a Vandread-y feel to it. Seemed like they were on the wrong side at the end though. Seems a little arrogant of them to think they were wise enough to control the power or whatever doesnt it?
Also started Code Geass. Im liking the more serious style. Im also liking the cheesy Soviet empire music for Brittania and Lelouche's cheesy theatrics. Quote:
EDIT: Wait wait wait. In Ep 12 was the student council member with glasses doing what I THINK she was doing with a photo of the younger princess Euphie or whatever? Wowww. The things they put in anime... Last edited by 9mmx19; 2008-02-11 at 05:12. |

Romance Anime Demi-God
|
Eureka 7 Has a few great fight scenes in it. a ton of humor. and a great story line as well as romance. My favorite Mecha Anime.
Ai Yori Aoshi "The Japanese Love Hina" Called this because it is very similar to love hina. But with a more Traditional Japenese Approach. Not as funny, or as "Hey lets beat up Keitaro, but a very tender romance, with a great support cast from Tina-chan and Chika-chan as well as others Didn't see this but, Trigun is a GREAT anime. you may have seen it, because its very popular, but about a Man (Vash) wanted by the law for destroying towns. but the story is much deeper then it first appears. Great Drama, with a very subtle romance. but TON of ass kicking action that you may enjoy. |

if I were to recomend good animes, i would mention some of the best animes that no one watches,
Terra..e - very epic and very underrated, one of the best animes in terms of story telling (if you want to see the effect of GLOBAL WARMING to earth and mankind, here it is) Turn A gundam - again very unique story, but if you are looking for cool mechs and well animed battles (or in good animation in general), dont bother, but it does have a cast of truly unique and lovable characters and one heck of a truly satisfying ending. Gundam 08th ms team - this is how a real battle should be fought, the depicts of realism of battles (sending out damaged ms to battles is a really nice touch) and lives of odinary soldiers, although the story is kinda rush, but you will end up feeling for the characters and their lives. Baby and me - depiction of the realism of a single parent family and the impacts on the young ones are worthy to watch, if you dont mind the old school animation. gundam 0083 - cool mechs, cool battles, a short and decent story with pretty good cast behind it, go check it out if you are a gundam fan (my fav mech in the series, GP02A). initial d 1st, 2nd, 3rd, extra, 4th stages (and all the side stories if you can find them) - although the cars are not "cool" as in the american movies, the battles are pretty realistic and can be replcated (but not recomended), they have techical explainations of the tracks and the cars performances in terms of power, turning and advantages and disavantages on the track, and other techical street (mountain road) racing knowledges, each battle is very kool to watch and refreshing, and the anime respect each cars, they wont just wreck them on purpose (another complain from watching american street racing movies), well the only thing that i dont like from the anime is the character design, but once you get pass that, it is very kool to watch. Finished Claymore and really liked it. We need more series like this. Great action and pretty well thought out story, lots of girls but didnt have any excessive fan service. Monster design didnt have anything that was too stupid or ridiculous, but it could have used some more variety in the Claymore design.
