Well, in honesty, the original TR was somewhat badly executed and could have been more than an action flick (even with AS as the main star)

But really, this is actually getting irritating, those old geezers in the upper chairs could use a heartattack or 6 and make way for some new blood

OMG people! Does three-boobs hooker the only thing you remember from the movie!!

I personally, was having nightmares of Arnold’s lady-mask and exploding faces when I first watch it on TV (I was ten at the time). Also, how about picking-out-a-golf-ball-sized-tracker-from-Arnie’s-nose scene? I definitely remember those more than the 3-boobies.

I remember when I saw it in the theater when it came out, at the point where the giant fan was slowing down and mutant mom and mutant little daughter look at each other, it was supposed to be a serious moment. Well at that moment someone shouted out "I LOVE YOU!" and had the whole theater laughing.

Either that or Ahnuld's character freakin' out in the middle of the Martian desert waiting for the oxygen to... cover the planet. Or something like that.

Heh, actually the most solid memory I have is the viewer's "wtf?" realization at the very, very end of the movie

There's nothing like Arnie's near-exploding face in the morning in Mars.

Ah, that too . But that very element was further explored in Dark City, I guess. It's kinda like The Matrix' prototype.

There was a Total Recall series for a little while. In 1999, there was the Canadian made Total Recall 2070.

Welllllll, not necessarily but I have to go back to the mid-20th century for an example:
The Thing... the original 1950s movie was taught and paranoid, but they simply lacked the special effects to pull off the monster. I tend to view it more as a metaphor attacking McCarthyism of the time. The 1980s movie remake was total paranoia with the special effects and it holds up better.

Oh, the guy who writes "GU Comics" had an amusing comment:
Quote:
I've watched the trailers, and read some about Total Recall and I'm lost for the changes that are being tossed about. No I don't expect the same movie. But like the Ninja Turtles, if you're going to change it too much, why even call it a remake? It's not. It's a Total Rewrite.

Your homework is to watch Total Recall. The movie features a chick with THREEE boobs!!!!!! *notice the number of exclamation points at the end of that sentence* Oh, and Arnold in his vivacious steroid glory.
I do remember this movie for having Michael Ironside , also the horrible effects of the lack of atmosphere of Mars on people.

I just can't see this movie being great without Arnold , all the scenes you guys have been posting with him are great! XD. I don't care that they keep remaking movies, I am just going to keep ignoring them mostly, but I wish hollywood would actually start making some original content instead of more and more remakes.

On that note though, I liked the first recall but the trailer to this one just makes me think already that they have failed -.- , i don't know, maybe it will be good and I will bite my tongue afterwords.

Sometimes a remake makes sense because the technology has changed that dramatically or the sensibilities no longer match up with what is presented on screen (e.g. many movies of the 20s/30s may present black stereotypes average viewers won't be able to judge within the context of the time.... or the change from black'n'white to Technicolor)

Hasn't really happened here. They'd have been better off titling it something related to the original Phillip K Dick novel source (We Can Remember It For You Wholesale) - call it a new interpretation of that. Calling it "Total Recall" is just some backhanded "yeah, it'll be like Arnold and Mars and stuff... but doesn't have any of that, yeah" o.O

The original Phillip K Dick plotline is already pretty amazing without embellishment:

Spoiler for Plot Summary of PKD's "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale":

I guess my issue is that this new film doesn't look that different from the last one. It is like buying a sequel football videogame that was updated slightly from the year before; it is sort of new, but not really.

I am sure they will put in an ending that is different from the previous film. But still...

I just can't justify a movie ticket.

The irony of this remake is that the original's script adaptation languished in shelves for twentry (or so) years (at one time Gena Hackman was thought as the main character) until Arnold read it and said <bad pronunciation>I want this done!</bad pronunciation>. Now it is (again) twenty years later and instead of risking their money in another sci-fi classic they simply will do a re-hash, sorry but I think the special effects of the original were good enough, this was not one of those movies where one walked out of the cinema thinking "Damn, if they had a bigger budget or if the special effects were more advanced, it would have been a great movie". Then I think all the great animes that could be done with all that wasted money >_<
