I'll put my belief that Maoyuu TV series will be the most epic series in 2013. Don't let me down, ARMS!

and i do hope that the selling of its LN and manga will be far better after this

Well, I do understand that certain people will be a little disappointed with the final chara design, me too.

Well, I got introduced by the manga first, so I was used to the bold, sharp character design. The one in the anime is more rounded and feels to have lost some unique personality on the way.

Not saying it's bad, but the one in the manga is so great it's hard to compare against it.

It depend in what you are looking for and how fidel the adaptation is, this is not a serie with alot of fight for exemple, it's more a political and social study.

I couldn't care less about fights. I happen to love FREEDOM and ECONOMICS.

I really don't see much problem with their designs, and I love how they looked in the PV. Static character design don't look as good as when they're animated anyhow.

We're too influenced by the sharp design approach that the manga had. Touge Hiro's adaption went for the cutesy look and even a softer atmosphere overall, and while its way of telling the same story isn't as dense as Ishida's, it didn't somehow destroy the characterisation of the Demon Queen. It just feels less dramatic.

Though honestly, I partly blame it to the first impression of the eye and mouth in the character art and the trailer, that focused on the 'shock factor' upon the introduction of the Demon Queen.

Yes, I guess the manga design sort of grew on me...

I hope the anime don't focus too much on that factor, it would ruin the whole thing.

I think she looks fine and cute too.

People didn't find it much troubling to see cute Horo but they found it troubling to see useless meat into a cute on e *O*

Or it could be that people introduced to Maoyuu through the manga drawn by Ishida were used to his sharp drawing style that give Demon Queen a more queen-like feel.

That's true but the anime was always going to follow the LN designs, since that is the original source as well as being the most popular.

This is just like when hagani and ore no went the proper designs, because most of us had been reading scans of a manga adaption people preferred that look...

Agreed, i actually enjoy the 'Oka no Mukou e' manga quite a bit. While i understand the issues people have with her design (i myself have my own reservations with Hero's design) it wont matter much if the spirit of the characters are kept in tact.

With that said out of all the adaptations, putting aside the 4-koma, the only one i felt betrayed the characterisation of Demon Queen in particular was Gaiden. That was definitely the worse introduction between the two characters. Demon Queen came off way too Chitanda\Orihime-esque and unlike the other adaptations, her intelligence was far overshadowed in favour of showcasing her cuteness e.g. pouting while putting her point across.

I actually think what might be clouding peoples judgement is that in the little promotional material released so far, in 99% of the shots, she is smiling like she is in the above picture. So its difficult not to draw conclusions about her personality. When its all said and done, i hope both characters are more akin to the novel, self titled manga or the "be mine hero, i refuse!" counterparts and not some interpretation that takes huge creative liberties.

I also hope Arms plan on utilising a whole spectrum of facial/body expressions, normal and distorted as it is something that prevalent in all the manga adaptations and the novel to the extent that its possible. If there is a project they wish to blow there wod on i'm hoping this is the horse they bet on. This could be their break out Anime if they handle it with the proper care.
