All we can do is try and look at it from Kamachis perspective, and surely he must be thinking that it would be a bland, predictable copout for him to ship Touma and Index when he has already done so much to spruik Mikoto. The Level 6 shift arc is one of the most important in the canon and it's all about Mikoto.

If I were in his shoes, I would throw a massive curve ball twist at the audience about midway through NT5 and have Mikoto just finally crack and confess out of the blue. She's definitely at that point where she's way past discovering and accepting her feelings, and now with what happened with those loyalty rings in Hawaii, she must be desperate to make headway with Touma.

I think it's fair to say he already has. He is outrageously protective of someone he supposedly has no interest in in the form of Mikoto. He is always deadset determined on keeping her away from danger, while Index just seems to find it.

He's also deadset determined on keeping Index away from danger, so I wouldn't count that aspect of him as evidence of a romantic interest.

Love turned the Mikoto file into a powerhouse capable of helping the Kamijo file in solving some unexpected malfunctions. I say we need to combine the two into the Kamikoto patch.
