that was an emergency training regiment but yeah, I understand what you mean. But this is going from 0 to being able to last 10 minutes with a cadet rep. He's desperate enough to believe anything. The problem is what would Tatenashi teach him?

Chifuyu can probably use any weapon, but her specialty is swordplay. That's why the initial idea was to have Aries use a sword. Tate's case... hand to hand combat? a lance?

I'm kind of having some issues with the tech. Other than that, you mean by scenes with "tidbit", right?

If that's the case then I posted one a few pages back. Thought it might stir things up with the Canon characters and my guys.

I'm just trying to marathon SAO (Keyword is "trying") and incidentally getting some ideas for personal drama along the way. From the way it looks, Athena is NOT going to consist entirely of mecha slugfests.

The sound of compressed air is heard, and Autumn backed away from her IS.

Autumn's IS began to glow and a few seconds later, it self-destructed.

Just as the explosion's about to engulf Ichika, Tatenashi covered him with her body.

"Unlike us, Anderson-san's fully covered in his armor; even his head with his helmet being invisible."

With that in her thought, she knew that Hot Shot will be okay.

"Are you alright, Ichika-kun?"

Extending her water veil shields to the largest, Tatenashi protected Ichika and Hot Shot.

"Yea-Yeah... Wait... Where's that woman?"

"She got away. She possibly took her core out before it self-descructed, leaving the armermants and armor to self-desctruct. If she failed, she would've hurt herself."

"Oh, is that so? Well..."

"Mn?"

"I-I would appreciate it if you'd back up a bit."

Tatenashi hugged him to cover him. In their current position, Ichika's face is in Tatenashi's breasts.

"Ya!~ Ichika-kun no ecchi.~"

"N-No! That's not it! Well, i-it's because things were urgent."

"Ahh—you're not man enough if you look for an exuse. How are they?"

"..."

"Not talking? You're too much."

"Huh? Oh, uh... I-I guess they're really s-soft..."

"Ichika-kun."

"Ye-Yes?"

"You're really perverted."

As they're recuperating from happened, Hot Shot slowly got up, catching their attention.

He went up to the spot where Autumn's IS self-destructed.

"Hot Shot."

Sideswipe entered with his Silverback on from where the wall Autunm impacted collapsed, opposite of where Ichika and Tatenashi are.

“Hot Shot, you okay?”

“…”

Hot Shot heard him ask, but he lowered his head without uttering a single word, glaring at the scorch mark on the ground in front of him, tightly clenching both of his hands.

"I was watching the whole thing, you know me; waiting for the right time to jump in—huh?"

“…”

Sideswipe's eyes opened as he saw the look in Hot Shot's eyes, who's still glaring at the scorch mark.

Eyes that are filled with a mixture of resentment and failure.

Seeing Hot Shot’s eyes, Sideswipe turned his attention to Ichika and Tatenashi.

"Anderson-san?"

Ichika spoke to Hot Shot, but as he did, Hot Shot gave him and mostly Tatenashi a stern look; eyes containing the same mixture of feelings that were before mentioned.

Both Ichika and Tatenashi looked at Hot Shot before he started walking out of the room.

When he started walking, they both looked at Sideswipe, who's already staring at them with a mixed look of disappointment and mostly betrayal on his face.

Ichika and Tatenashi agreed to help with the Silverback testing when they arrived at IS Academy. They also agreed with Sideswipe to help them when they're fighting alongside each other in combat, only to the point of being supportive; so they can get the most data about the Silverbacks in combat. And that incident was no exception.

Of all the IS pilots in the world they had to beat in front of Hot Shot, it was Autumn.

Even though Ichika and Tatenashi beat Autumn, for Hot Shot, it was a failure; a failure on his personal life mission.

Sideswipe is well aware that Hot Shot wants to kill Autumn with his own hands. He wants a piece of her, too, but Hot Shot has a grudge deep enough for the both of them. With that, he chose to assist Hot Shot in his personal life mission, and let him kill Autumn himself.

After watching the fight ending with Ichika and Tatenashi forcing Autumn to self-destruct her IS, Sideswipe strongly felt that they've gone against their words.

"I guess I was wrong about trusting IS pilots..."

Dismayed by their actions in that fight, he turned his back towards Ichika and Tatenashi before leaving them.

This right here will eventually lead to this scene I posted a while ago.

Any thoughts?

Hmm, I can see why, though did he actually tell the pilot his agenda? If so, then he had a good reason to angry, even if that's technically outside rules.

I don't know why, but I felt some kind of hype aversion regarding the anime, it's one of the faithful adaptation but something just didn't click with me. Maybe because I read the novel first, bad idea X_X

That aside, I gave up trying to insert much more drama than anything romance, family, friendship, or mecha slugfest. I especially avoid politic and philosophical rant unless really, really necessary.

I just wing'd it since it involves MMOs, even addressing present-world gaming issues in a rather dramatic manner.

The drama I have in mind is more centered around the idea of Chekhov's Gun so it's not exactly politics. More to family complications.

Hmmm some new ideas are stirring. Hmm... does this sound too out there?

The Silent Seven. A group of seven scientists rumored to have been peers of Shinonono Tabane. They were involved as the core team that spearheaded IS research, with Tabane as their leader. They are known as the silent seven because all that is known is that there are seven of them and during the White Knight Incident, they were completely out of the media's reach to speak and have not spoken on the topic of their creation. Personal information on each is lost in the short decade due to government information control.

Tatenashi begins preparations for Aries' personal IS. she goes to ISRI and blackmails one of the Silent Seven. Tatenashi, not knowing how to train someone on an emergency tells that scientist to think of something to teach a zero skill novice to beat a cadet rep in 2 weeks too. So the scientist goes to the only person she knows who may have an answer, the most combat experienced pilot on team who has battle knowledge down to a scientific art form. So yeah, Chifuyu XD

Sword Art Online can be a good source for drama elements.

The equivalent to the IS's default form. Mainly used to gather combat data for it's user in order for it to properly configure itself to its user's fighting style and preference. Unlike the use of an IS in it's default form, where it's not recommended to use in combat, the Silverback in its Beta Phase has to be used in combat in order to get the data for it's configuration into its 1st Phase. Combat data can be aquired by training as well, but actual combat works a lot faster.

Stasis Phase:
The equivalent to the IS's Closed form. When the Silverbacks are not in use, it'll be in this form. But unlike the IS where it's closed forms are normally accesories, the Silverback in its Stasis Phase will take on the form of various armor pieces; depending on the user's preference. While in this form, the Silverback is in its self-repair state and it'll process any data aquired from it's previous activation.

Stand-By Phase:
The form the Silverback takes from being in it's Stasis Phase, before fully going 1st Phase on normal activation. In this phase, the Silverback will be a body protector and front leg armor. The Energy Shield is not activated, but the body protector and front leg armor serve as actual armor; partially protecting its user in this phase. In an emergancy situation, the Stand-By Phase can be bypassed and the Silverback will go straight into it's 1st Phase.

1st Phase:
The Silverback's primary phase after gaining enough combat data in its Beta Phase. In this phase, the Silverback has configured to its user's fighting style. Also this is where the Silverback itself takes on a new appearance from when it was in its Beta Phase.

2nd Phase:
N/A

3rd Phase:

@jak: Sorry man. It was just too hard to resist the bait. I do suggest you reword beta though. The fact that it's contradictory to wanting it to be in actual battle while not advising to bring it into real battle is kind of... to put it lightly, non-sensical.

No, not at all. Way too big and bulky...

The Silverbacks in its Beta Phase will have a similar look to that of the Delta Six Accelerator Suits from the film G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra.

When in their 1st Phase, it'll have a similar look to the Gears of War armor design and Tony Stark's Ironman suit (no glowing core on the chest) put together and slightly slimmed down.

You read it wrong, it explicitly compare them to I.S., normally you didn't bring default-form I.S. to battle yet (like Ichika did, hence Cecilia's shock, Tabane also explicitly boost-phase Akatsubaki to first shift before deployment) because of the risk, on the other hand Beta-phase Silverbacks REQUIRE combat data because manual setting just not enough.

Well... I would've feared that people might go around thinking it's actually the canonical bulky suits but seeing from the reviews, doesn't seem like it.

The Minerva evolves but not on its own. Leaning more to real-robot style to stand out from the IS by having it to be manually upgraded into its more advanced incarnations, some having a different array of weaponry.

Speaking of which, I don't suppose each of the four Silverback pilots have distinct combat styles?
