As expected, no resolution to the cliffhanger. I don't think Akira is dead- it's just too obvious, and frankly there need to be a humans alive or there's really no series left.

They really seem to have written themselves into a corner here, don't they? It's hard to see any way this was isn't over already.

Gosh this series! How does it do it? I mean, for 17 straight episodes this series has shown us one sided slaughter. Normally I'd be bored to death and drop as series such as this, but I this series has somehow made it into my favorites list and now I look forward to it every week. With this, it's pretty clear that the best thing about Shiki is not it's story but it's execution. It's just solid. I guess it was a best choice to be patient and not read manga.

Anyway, this was another of those great episodes this series has been giving us for so many weeks. I just don't understand the choice Seishen made though. After that lecture he gave about no life being worth so little, I thought he might be neutral and just see how things unfold, but he decides to go to Sunako. Maybe he has something planned after all and my theory about him being a coward and not wanting to get his hands dirty was wrong

Also that dialogue of Toshio at the end about not caring anymore and just wanting to see what happens to the fools who only believe what's convenient to them. I know he was just faking it as he was clearly disturbed when the nurse was bitten and also when he was examining that patient but still it did have some of his real feelings as he is certainly frustrated at the villagers not listening to him and just ignoring everything that's been happening. I thought that he will be spared after that, but he was still bitten.

Seriously, with this episode, Toshio surpassed Yuki and established himself as the main character of the series for me. Even if he dies now, to me he will still be a character who stood out of the bunch and made the series even more lovable than it was before he took the lead. Damn, they should have just made him the main lead of the series

I wonder how the story is going to progress now. There clearly are neither that many people nor episodes left for them to continue this killing spree.

Can someone please explain to me what's really going on? 17 episodes, and no real change in the pace. You've got one teenaged kid who like Blade seems to be able to walk in the daytime but detests his own kind. What's the deal? Isn't there a turning point?

There is, the vampires are winning, Toshio got bitten (the only last bit of hope in this village) and Seishi is being a coward and siding with the vampires it seems. Our only hope is Natsuno, and whatever he is planning.

Seishirou's scene stole the episode, this little bit of humor was more than welcome in this very dark episode.

I felt that you could really see where Seishin's conflict lies with that "there is no life that is worth so little as to say "I don't care when I die"" or basically, "there is no life not worth living". He treats both the Shiki and the humans as living beings and wants them all to do their best to live on. It's probably because he's been interacting with Sunako, and meeting the highly conflicted Tohru only confirmed it for him: neither should be prioritised over the other.

(btw: that's the reason Sunako told Tohru her story - because she wanted to share with him her desire to live, no matter what kind of life it was.)

Seishin seems like a hypocrite to me, he wants everyone to live on and encourages them to do whatever it takes to survive, even though he knows perfectly well he's urging them to kill each other by doing so. I seriously hope he went to visit Sunako to reason with her, and not just to sit back and watch until it's all over.

Great, but how many episodes left do they have left for this? It feels like they're going to have to rush the turning point and resolution within 8-9 episodes. Not a whole lot for character growth.

Seishin says he doesn't want to kill living intelligent creatures, even to stop them killing others. This is a perfectly reasonable principle, and one which many people agree with: killing won't stop killing. I don't happen to agree with him here, but I don't think he is being either stupid or cowardly. He is following high principles.

Well since its going to be a 24 episode series, they only have 7 episodes left. So they might have to rush "some" parts to get things going, but we may never know, they might actually still go normal pace and still pull incredible executions.

Is he truly following high principles, or is he just hiding behind them? Doing nothing won't stop the killings either. Killing may not have been the only way to solve the situation, he may have been able to save the village if he had tried to talk to Sunako earlier. It's far too late now, however, neither sides will back off and forgive the other.

I suppose he can't help it; Seishin's been raised as an heir to the temple, which gives him a foundation of holy principles. While this is so...yeah, he had a choice, but it was a harder for him to make up his mind because he had such a moral approach to the circumstances (while Toshio, as a doctor, was practical).
It's hard to give up what he's believed in for so long, that it's not easy to let go. But I don't think this is a sign of weakness either.

To be honest, I don't know. I think he at least believes consciously he is acting on principle. One principle he does seem to be following is forgiveness: forgiving the shiki for just acting according to their nature.

Does anyone else wonder if the old priest's invitation was just a last desperate gamble to grasp at extending his life?

I hadn't thought of that - my assumption was that he did what he did to try and spare his family from being eaten. But you certainly raise an interesting possibility.

I don't see a good end to this show which means it will suck! Doctor is dead now. he is controlled now that he is bitten.. I was hoping for some salvation by having Natsuno save the live villagers but that did not happen. So almost nobody left alive.. so what is their to save? I think this show is sucking more and more and going to have a bad ending.. which sucks.

Doctor was stupid also.. he didn't take more than one stake.. and even though it was shot I would of still grabbed for fragments they are still sharp wood and not stayed around.. secondly before all this went down I would of put up a sign no trespassing.. invitations only by personal permission of the me.. signed me. That way any past permissions to enter would of been null and void since now everyone patients and all would have to ask for permission to enter.. effectively rebuking prior permissions. Play the rules to your advantage not theirs.

I agree with some of the thoughts on episode 17, that the series up to this point has been a drag and a bit of a disappointment. I continue to watch it in the hope that something completely unexpected happens, because by now I don't see any way for the remaining humans to do anything to change their collective fate.

Don't be hating on the show just because the ending is not turning out the way you want to - there are still 5 episodes left and more things to come - its still has a potential to have glorious ending, lol.
I hear people calling it sucky and worse show ever, it's obviously still the best show of the season since everyone is so freaked out by it and its causing such reactions from people
I am very curious to see how it will end, but I am sure they dragged this battle so long for a reason. Its going to be a complete despair till the very end and then I bet things will turn around. I just hope they will do it the right way.

Well Natsuno was bitten and killed too, but he rose as a daywalker prepared to fight the Shiki. Who knows what happens with doc later on! As far as the old priest goes, I also feel he's got something in mind since he figured out what was going on fairly easily and quickly - he must know something about the last time this happened in the village.

I still think it is a wonderful show, it's just that it needs a whole lot of twists and turns to have an ending that's not super obvious and with 5 eps to go I don't know where they could fit them!
