Long-running adult/violent/sexual/philosophical/intellectual manga

My favorites in this catagory are:

Berserk

The original ultra-violent manga, which has been running non-stop since the 80s. It features great artwork that conjures a gritty medieval European type setting full of rape, plague, banditry, murder - and above all - pure demonic indulgance, with a god that isnt just unsympathetic to suffering, but revels in hell on earth. The original tough, giant-sword wielding badass, Gutz, wanders through the carnage, without a care for whoever gets in his way, in search of victory in a hopeless world.

Blade of the Immortal

Truely a masterpiece of both art and story. It concerns a wandering ronin who is given immortality by a Buddhist nun. He has to make up for the killing of 100 good people, by killing a thousand bad people. Manji is probably the best lead badass since Gutz. Eventually various interest groups start to covet his abilities...

Gantz

Like a lot of people, I first watched the Gantz anime, and was attracted to its utter nihilism, and the cynisism of the main charecter. It was brutally honest, and I wanted to know more. Unlike the anime, the manga hasnt ended, and the fight continues, with the highest body-count of important characters out of any series.

Shin Angyo Onshi

New Korean manhwa - ive heard there is a film of it around, but I have never watched it. The manga has been compared to Berserk - this time about a wandering vililante in a medieval-Korean style fantasy world.

Bleach

Not really that adult or violent, but deserves mention because it can be very serious, and have plenty of dark humor. Everyone who has ever watched anime probably knows what it is.

Basilisk

I havent yet checked this series out, but I have heard good things, and setting an anime war between two ninja clans in Tokugawa era Japan can never be a bad thing

You can go For Fresia, it right now at Volume 7, and its Violent and Psychological.

MPD Psycho also has a similar taste in terms of it.

Elfen Lied could do you well; it is very violent and have this air of terror in it.

The only thing is that neither of them haven’t reached the 100 Chapter mark (exept Elfen Lied), but Basilisk neither had more than 60 Chapter. but it is a very good Manga.

Other Mentions can go for Bastard, I haven’t read it yet, but it basically a combination of somethings from the title of this thread is: Long-running adult-violent-sexual manga.

It's not long at all, but there' enough plot movement and development in it to be worth it. It shows a dark side of the Southeast Asian underworld of the late 80s/90s centralising in Malaysia with dark plot elements.

Pyschometrer Eiji

25 volumes of a unique twist to the episodic detective genre with deep, pyschological and philosophical approach to the criminal mindset, looking at the mindview of sick twisted criminals from unique perspectives. It also embodies a lot of side-plots that revolve around the ugly, relenting harsh world lived by people and how monsters are created from the darkness of people's hearts.
