Warhammer 40K: Dark Millenium (MMP)

Not generally interested in MMO's in general, but I think this is worth mentioning, as THQ announced their Warhammer 40K MMO, Dark Millenium:

There'll probably be ways that they'll balance it out so that Guardsmen can do just as well as an Astartes. But if you think about it, even in the DoW games, or even the tabletop, Space Marines don't perform as well as they do in the lore. It breaks the balance of the game XD

But I have a feeling that there will be ways for the Guardsmen to compete with their superhuman relatives :3

I think those would be NPCs. Or maybe if you played Guard you'd be the sergeant commanding a platoon of goons. Kinda like Mastermind from CoH.

That said, I'd rage if it turned out to be a 40K Team Fortress 2. :/

Extrapolating from the fantasy MMO, I'd say we get to play Eldar on both Order and Chaos flavors, but Tyranid may be NPC during the first release.

And when you "Level Up" in the Hive Ships you get digested into the genetic-gruel and reconstitued into a new species, potentially allowing you to advance from a Hormagaunt to Carnifex to even a Hive Tyrant, or whichever direction you want to advance in, allowing a versatility in character flavor that nor other player race can match.

A versatility that the Kroot will also have should they ever get the good fortune of being made a player's race.

From what I read of the novels, the only time the Astartes kick asses on a galatical scale is in the pre-heresy era.

They start to stink after that overgrown Smurf Guilliman did his Chapter division thingie. Coupled with various factors like degenerated Gene-Seed, Chapter Politics, Xenophobias, etc. Astartes arn't really what they used to be.

Anyway, the actual space marines aren't as OP as some omnibuses make them to be. In fact, I'd take the table top to be a more acucrate representation!

16 Hours. Its the official AVERAGE lifespan of a guardsman once deployed into a combat zone according to the Imperial Guard Omnibus.

For a next gen MMO, its graphics look awfully last gen. It looks more like the current Warhammer MMO with mechs and space marines. It doesn't even seem look as good as Dawn of War 2.

I've been hearing a lot of rage on forums about possible 2 order (Human/Elder 0_o ) 2 'destruction' (Chaos/Ork D: ) ala Warhammer.

To play the devil's advocate, you don't hear DM being touted as a WoW-killer do you? That means it doesn't even have a shred of hope like this rest of the pack. Star Trek Online was the last MMO I hoped to captivate me... and nothing happened.

But we can still pray.

I too don't quite like the idea of Order VS Chaos again. It's too kitbashed, especially for 40K. Not sure it worked for Fantasy (or at least I have some people I know defending the concept).
