Last year went to Macross ... this year going by OP/ED Kemono no Souja Erin ~ Beast Player ~ looks like the most likely candidate

but I have to say Kanno's "Macross Plus" soundtrack is a masterpiece. I bought it in 1996 and I regularly listen to the whole thing almost twice a month. I can hum all the songs in my head right now. And it never gets old or boring. |

My favourite soundracks from anime are the ones for;
"X" Death Note Gun X Sword Azumanga Daioh Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu Fullmetal Alchemist I liked the Azumanga Daioh one because it was so unique and clever, the way they used sounds such as hitting kettles, to make it suit the atmosphere of the anime. |

Best 2007 soundtrack nomination and voting threads:
http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=58206 http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=60412 I thought about running a 2008 poll but was waiting to see whether musical scores were going to be a category in Kyomi's Choice Awards poll. I'm a little busy at the moment to do this again, but you're all welcome to pick up the torch. I didn't find many of the scores I heard in 2008 all that memorable. The mix of quiet piano sequences and epic-scaled orchestral pieces in Shion no Ou was one of the best. Of the ones I nominated in 2007, I still listen to the OST for Dennou Coil on a regular basis, and the ones for Bartender and Oh! Edo Rocket as well. "Guns 'n Roses," the OP from Baccano! is now my cell ringtone.

Baccano!'s OP still remains one of my favorites but I wish I could say the same about its music. The jazz was appropriate within the context of the series but without it, it sounds so bland.

At one point, in the Rocket thread I believe, I wondered if the big-band influences had roots in the postwar American occupation. Some tracks sound like they could have been written by the Dorsey brothers. One of the things that's so striking to me about the best anime scores is their use of percussion, a feature of both the Rocket and the Dennou Coil scores. It gives the music a distinctly Asian feeling. Let me just pimp the score for Dennou Coil one more time. It's truly an extraordinary piece of work for a television sound track. I particularly enjoy the wide range of instrumentation and moods throughout.

Also a while back I made a thread about what people thought to be the best OST of last year, no poll or anything though
But I must agree OST wise this year has been very low and sucky even lol |

Fullmetal Alchemist op3+4, ed1+2
Bleach op2+3,too many endings to list Toradora op2 and both endings, they're stuck in my head all day. Jigoku shoujo futakomori: during the start of an episode,during the hell scene, both ops, there are generally many well-blended melodies in this one. Gintama op1+3, the two last endings were very nice too. |
