Not for me, I kinda spoiled myself. And thing is, I didn't even watch raws, just one page with a dark atmosphere, some depressing dialogue, and kinda put it together. Also, this show is rich on drama, so we really should've seen it coming regardless.

On a somewhat related note, I just noticed Yaya's proposal for the club's logo had Naru in it. As expected of the first girl Quote:

That's a funny way to say it's time for Yaya's big development, really, even the title implies so. Quote:

It is expected of course, that Japanese and Social Studies will drag her grades down - she doesn't have the foundation beforehand, and hence need to catch up. As expected, Math and Science saves her, but it's very surprising English does not. It would have been even more compelling, had Hana gotten an average of 78 or so because of her strong English, Math and Science, but failed to make it because her Japanese exam sucked. Speaking of which, I'm not surprised that Yaya's band failed to make it through. The narrative kinds of demand it, while the amount of competition they faced probably ensured mere competency was not enough to see you through. |

re Naru's mom's age: She's 39. The 17 year old thing refers to the old joke from Kikuko Inoue and Yukari Tamura, and their answer to questions about their ages. It's also kind of filtered through to some anime and fandoms (Touhou for the latter).

its hard to translate something you can't read. I'm much more impressed on her math which is 100 and then there is also Science which is 98.

I guess, it really makes sense then. If I had to guess, I would say she'll probably join after their debut performance. |

Still, that rejection from the audition hits Yaya hard! Maybe it's time for her to move to the Yosakoi Club after her problem is resolved. |

The part with Naru's dad were my favorites. I know I'd be behave much the same way if I had a daughter
Sally-chan-sensei was successfully added to Hana's harem! Yes, Hana is the real harem master. Naru is only there to help her pick up girls.

Not surprising. I have a friend who was born and raised in the US, then came back home after finishing grade school. During her first year in secondary highschool she failed pretty much every subject, even English, mainly because she couldn't read the questions at all.

Pretty good episode. Maybe it's just me though, but as for the drama over Yaya's band which presumably will be coming up, I really hope it doesn't break up/they don't give up on it. I guess anybody could reasonably argue that this is ultimately a show about Yosakoi, and Hana/Naru as the more central characters, so it might 'make sense' for Yaya to be freed from her distractions and more fully dedicate herself to the club. However, I can't help but feel that something like that would be a disgrace to Yaya's own dreams and free will. Even if it's not directly related to yosakoi, I like the element that Yaya being in a parallel pursuit of passion as part of a band brings to the story.

For me, Yaya having to balance her life between her bandmates and yosakoi club becoming a catalyst for developing her character isn't much of a surprise, but her ending up quitting or breaking up of the band is really uncalled for, and I hope the author wouldn't take such a path. |

I don't think Yaya would choose to quit the band, I'm just not so sure about the other members. A band is made up of multiple people: a drummer can't carry it alone. If the others are too disheartened by this to keep going they may decide to give up no matter what Yaya wants.
