I thought Haiku poems originally had to contain a reference to a season? Maybe "Fall" and "leaves" can be interpreted into Autumn...

That said, I really don't understand Haiku's... I much prefer limericks and spoofs...

Nah, the mods hate closing threads, they'll try their hardest not to close it.

How about instead of getting this closed we get a mod to rename it and we could start a poem thread?

Perhaps, I dont much like it. But its better than this "cold war" thread. But didnet we use to hava a poem thread (I think it was closed or lost in the great purge) I cant remember.

Well maby the forum bard will get active again if we create a thread like this. ^_^

I'd scare to many people here if I posted my more thought out poems. Also I'd have to find them wherever they are. I think on some cd-r. But heres one I posted for poetry.com, I wish I could post the one that got me into a book but I just don't feel like finding it right now. Plus it was edited for the competition and I only have the unedited version.

Silent rage

The Sermon of the Kite

I take my kite out into the wind
unwind the string and watch it sail
Then I look at the kite as it floats on air
And think how much it resembles my life

My soul is the kite, all spangled and bright
and covered with ribbons and bows
But like a kite I cannot fly
without the proper things being all and right.

It takes air to make me fly and string to hold me tight
An anchor set firmly in the ground, attached to the kite
Its strong control, a welcome thing
For without it I would fall into the sea

The kite is launched, the string is taunt,
the air is brisk and strong.
its wings unfurled, its frame in place,
its cloth is light and strong

The wind, it blows
The kite, it sails
The string is run
The anchor holds firm and strong

Higher and higher, the kite it sails
Its wings it touches the clouds in air
But for that strong string and anchor
The kite, it would not sail at all

Then I see the kite as me,
weak and frail, but light and free.
As the kite, earth bound I am,
Save for the string, anchor and wind

The wind is the word,
the bible strong and true,
it lifts me away from the world
and brings me closer to God

The anchor is Jesus
His strength holding the line
His hands guiding me and keeping me safe
His love holding fast to me and my heart

The string is my faith,
Its strands strong and thick
Its length grows and improves
With each step closer I take to you, Oh God.

I stand by the sea, and watch it fly
And marvel at the blue and splendid sky
At its flight, its wings, the wind, and you
