Space Battleship Yamato (Live Action 2010 film)[Licensed by Funimation]

You gotta be kidding me...

No, it's not another Hollywood remake of an anime franchise, but damn if the special effects make it look like one And the intro music at the end made me T_T

Yamato live action movie

I wasn't really a huge fan of the original Yamato (or Star Blazers), but as a science fiction fan this makes me very excited.

Not too excited about LVA but please do check out the animated movies coming out. They reminded me a lot of Gundam . The art is really superior and crisp couldn't believe it was 70s Yamato ^^ .

Spoiler for SBY Animated Trailer:

Spaceships that look like 20th centuries battleships, thats like those space travelling steam locomotions... I mean that is just too much fiction for me.

Well, both those space travelling steam locomotives (I'm guessing you're referring to Galaxy Express 999) and Space Battleship Yamato were concieved by the same person, Leiji Matsumoto, who also gave us Captain Harlock. And frankly, such wierdness is the 70's for you

This is a remake of 70s anime and that was the age of space travel . The Moon landing in 69 and Star Trek in 66 inspired lot of space fiction . The cultural impact was huge and Japan wasn't far behind

The Battleship shape well its a tribute to a real Japanese Battleship Yamato . Which had become legendary for tenacity and sacrifice during WW2 . So Yamato the Battleship had become a part of contemporary folklore along with Kamikaze . The anime was a tribute in a way to the legendary battleship .

The modern nuke fearing submarine is shaped like a first world war torpedo and is powered by a steam locomotive.
Hell, that steam locomotive in the submarine is also what fires the nukes! talk about progress.

Technically the warship of the era of when Yamato was made looked like this.

But hey, it's not like a space World war 2 battleship is inherently sillier than most of the other ship designs you see.

...that's because they're both designed to go in the water.

Guys, really, Yamato actually IS the homonymous ship. It is supposed to look lile that, unlike Harlock's Space"ship" or the 999 express train.
