character is kind of a person who was
terrible with magic but then becomes super powerful.
and if its one about sorcery and stuff
can it be one of those that the whole world is has magic
and stuff. oh and can the main character be
a teen it would be much a blighted also let it be a guy because ive known
of to many female ones

(kind of forgot can it be dubbed) thank you

Macademi Wasshoi is good fun, school setting, main guy summons a girl who wants to serve him kinda haremish but funny.

Someday's Dreamers has an intriguing plot about prospective mages who must attend school and be licensed to practice their craft. It focuses on the ethical issues about when the use of magic is justifiable. The main character is a fifteen-year-old girl. You can watch the first episode for free at Sentai's site, theanimenetwork.com, but the remaining episodes require a subscription. An unrelated sequel was released a couple of years ago, but it is nowhere near as good as the original.

The girls in Mahou Shoujotai Arusu are younger, more like middle-school age, but the story itself is dark and complex. Young Arusu (Alice) wants to live in a magical world and use magical powers to do good things and make people happy. When she falls into a real magical world, she discovers that magic can also be used for darker purposes. This show is beautifully illustrated by Studio 4°C, but you should act fast if you're interested, as DVD stocks at major retailers are running low.

Gakuen Alice is another well-known show about a school for mages, but I've only watched a bit of it, so I can't really say much about it.

Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san is a comedy about a mage in his twenties who has contracts with various demons that he calls upon to help resolve his clients' problems. The demons are hilariously chibi, and his assistant is a very cute meganeko. The sequel is airing this season. This show is a bit raunchy at times, unlike the others.

The first three of these have dubs, but since I only watch with subtitles, I can't say how good they may be.

Maybe Kaze no Stigma? I believe you can watch it for free on Hulu/Funimation's website.

Check out Little Witch Academia! It's only a single 25-minute episode, and it's one of the best anime to come out this year (or ever). You can think of it as a shorter version of Mahou Shoujotai Arusu that SeijiSensei recommended.

Magi - not dubbed though, finished airing not so long ago. Main character is a bit young but he can use magic and grows stronger as series progress. Season 2 should air in autumn.

I second Kaze no stigma, fits very well...and ill also recommend Bastard!, strong magic user anti-hero. You wont find many characters like him, quite refreshing.

Densetsu no Yūsha no Densetsu aka Legend of the Legendary Heroes seems to be exactly what you're looking for.

Zero no Tsukaima, starts off with a female but then it revolves around the male.
