Also something that been on the japanese wikipedia is that Mayuyu's real name is "android MAYUYU code-CG-3". So far I wasn't able to find the source where they got that info, so not sure if it's true.

Takamina is my favorite AKB girl, ever since I saw the "Skirt, Hirari" PV and loled at how she was using a high ponytail to compensate for her lack of height (which is quite apparent in the "Sakura no Shiori" PV, where SKE48 loli Jurina Matsui is taller than her).

So at the start we have Nagisa and Chieri still worrying about same problems as last episode (Nagisa worrying about the idea of ranking everyone, Chieri worrying about her popularity not being true). Then they have a handshake event. And the PV ends with: "At that place (handshake event place), what is that Chieri have seen!?"
Oh, it also seems to confirm that only Chieri from the kenkyusei got in the top 10.

This week episode was somewhat interesting...

Spoiler for Stage 16 spoilers:

Chieri, since she's not stupid, figured out someone is backing her. I wouldn't have expected to see his father tell her semi-directly via video that, though. I'm pretty sure this will have some repercussions later, especially since Chieri went to talk to Tsubasa.

Mimori got a lot of screentime....Not to mention being in the top ten. I hope she doesn't get killed though, since all the time spent on her looks a bit suspicious...

Also interesting to note that during the concert of the kenkyusei, they had problems in making the Kirara glow.

Kibou ni Tsuite was the ED this time, and I can't stress how much I feel it's better than the current OP, which lacks substance, IMO.

Even more interesting is that fact that Chieri and Nagisa made the kirara glow at will, after seeing they others had problems with their kirara. That shows the difference between these two and the other girls.

The furore over AKB48's Kasai Tomomi's photo book has moved on to a new level. Now the police are considering child pornography charges and have begun an investigation at Kodansha. Here is the notorious photo (NSFW). Perhaps we can avoid the childish discussion that accompanied this story on ANN where guys chimed in about how "lucky" the young boy was.

The article mentions that "since a boy of European descent was used as a model, [the Tokyo police] are considering the possibility that this may be an international matter because some countries have stricter child pornography laws than Japan." However some observers believe the photo violates Japan's own child porn laws.

(Offtopic) There's the AKB thread in the Music section; Kasai's problem -- the responsibility is really on the hands of those who were behind the photography production -- has absolutely nothing to do with this anime.

First, I don't care about AKB as a group, so I would never read the Music thread. Second, there has been awful lot of other material about the actual group in this thread over the past year. Why are you so quick to tag this as off-topic? Considering the number of people like me that have no interest in the group itself outside of this show, I thought it was news-worthy.

Somehow your reaction suggests some defensiveness that mentioning this story might sully the reputation of one of the members or the group itself. Frankly, it should. But if you think the post should be moved, then use the Report button.

I also find it highly unlikely that the AKB powers-that-be were unaware of this issue in advance of the magazine's intended release. I doubt only Kodansha and the photographers were involved. AKB is a tightly-controlled organization. If they weren't aware of Kasai's photoshoot they have only themselves to blame. There's always the usual "all publicity is good, even if it's bad publicity" meme to consider here.

I think it's just that Kibou no Tsuite is so good and they used it really well in the first season rather than the new OP being that bad. ( also liked it's appearance here in ep16). New OP being more ave. to above ave. ( there certainly are a lot more worse & forgettable OP/ED out there) of course it will fail in comparison with the "original" which also has the advantage of being more familiar. Also I think new OP is the type of song that needs getting used to, it's definitely sounding better for me as time goes on .

off topic : As for that NEWS tomomi something, is she even in the anime? that's definitely off-topic, and maybe doubly more so since she seems to be out of the AKB48 franchise at the moment and that was a solo project, IIRC some news bit i partly scanned.
