There is a lack of references due to the current low level of material. Most of it comes from the Magazines or the Integral Works.

However, there are some that are slowly adding more serious articles to the wiki, and others that make sure it is up to standards. If you have the time and knowledge do contribute.

Like i said, its being changed slowly. The cleanup of the troll articles will done. Its starting with the technological pages for now. Take a look at the change history.

Here's a kinda random yet perhaps also obvious question: Why on earth is the series called "Muv-Luv"? Is it a purely invented word or does it actually stem from somewhere?

IIRC, back then when Muv Luv was suppose to come out nobody knew about the Unlimited part(military one) and though it will all be just generic romcom. After Japanese went through 2 main routes and discovered Unlimited they were mind=blown. Correct me if i'm wrong about something.

But damn, age planned this VN really well. If you listen to lyrics of Muv Luv OP you can hear kinda spoilers for Alternative part

I believe the word Muv comes from 間夫 which read as マブ (mabu) and means lover. Luv is Love, so the title literally means Lover's Love.

Yes. It was even marketed as a super-stereotypical high school rom/com eroge.

There is nothing about mecha/BETA/military in MuvLuv's official website, even if half of that game was an unlockable story set in the same Alt-world of the anime.
I've been told that there was a only a small tease in Takeru's character profile: if you clicked his sprite, it would change to the military training version. Currently, that little trick is still there but it reveals a lot more.

They were planning for the biggest genre-shift ever seen from the very start. Just look at the background of MuvLuv's cover image.

Hm that's sorta random but thanks. So the series started out as a harem game thing and then became all gritty and apocalyptic I guess. Kind of hilarious when you think about it.

Not quite. It does start out like that and it also becomes what you said, but the genre shift was planned.

I get the feeling its a side story from Haruko Maniax, since Rebirth had a different style of art, and Adoration is totally different. I'll have to reinstall it to check.
*edit: confirmed, its a short story called Houki naru Chi in Haruko Maniax.

And for the side stories in Chronicles, Adoration had been transcribed in the wiki, and I promise to complete Rebirth in my one week break from work end of the month... if I get to take it...
