The title, though. At this rate they might as well called it "Girls, Start Your Engines."
The PV alone had me snickering:

Hina: Aoba, Dio's waiting for you
Aoba: Who?
Hina: Dio's waiting for you.
Dio: Aoba Watase?
Aoba: Dio?
"This encounter will change destiny"

Sure Buddy Complex, sure.

Yeah, reading the title on the list of upcoming series, my first impression was "Is this a yaoi adaptation of somesort?" Upon seeing it's a Sunrise mecha anime with the two male leads, the MC with his 'fabulous' fashion sense, and them pretty much killing off the female lead in the PV, I guess it's close enough.

At first, I thought this was at least hinted back all the way March for the "old Studio 8 staff" mostly, hence the joke with a new Xenoglossia. Now I don't know what to think because the staff looked rather mixed ... While I don't think there's a season 3 for Horizon anyway, I don't think there's much interference if they're still thinking about that since they definitely have enough staff. In the intro page they did say this is from the Horizon + Love Live group?team?; in addition to Love Live season 2 being April and I honestly don't think a mech anime from Sunrise would run for less than 1 season (despite split cour being a good possibility) there are probably a ton of schedule overlap anyway.

EDIT: Well seems like from twitter lots of Horizon's staff's on this as well, so there's that.
I guess it could be a publisher problem, since it'd be stupid not to ride on the success of Horizon, and even the staffs love doing that show.

Also, glad someone remembers Setsuko.

Hopefully this show will have something interesting. The premiere looks awfully generic.

I hope it's standard. VV wasn't bad, but not my kinda thing, so I hope they go back to the basics.

It's amazing the sheer amount of effort some people have already put into disliking this show.

Why wouldn't they care about Horizon? It has only been just a bit over a year since Horizon 2 finished... I'll be more worried if I was an Accel World fan than Horizon tbh.... it was well behind Love Live and Horizon in sales (and the novel boost wasn't that big, than again same for Horizon but the anime was a bigger hit) as it is and than Studio 8 bring a new IP into the mix.

Probably because they're going for something else...

I swear this series had a plot synopsis I wasn't crazy about. Turned me away instantly. But now the wikipedia page (where I saw that plot) has removed it. Now the trailers don't really lend credit to that plot synopsis I read.

Looks totally different.

Hopefully it doesn't have some crazy ass pull twist like Valvrave.

Honestly, the summary and trailer makes me think this is the "kid-friendly" version of Valvrave .

Mecha designs are pretty strong though. Kinda of a blend of flashy hero mecha, and conventional grunt designs. So in that area, the show appears strong.

I feel the same way. But it feels more bland than VVV in terms of character design and mechas, there's nothing which makes me optimistic about this. I'll watch the first episodes at least, when VVV came out I was going to watch it for the OP song

I think at this point there pretty much isn't a series that I wouldn't watch so long as it had actual 2D mecha battles in it. I know this show is probabily going to be some total trainwreck, or failing at that totally boring, but I'm a junkie and I need my fix.

So...anyone able to get some translations for the mecha section? There is some text to the right. Anyone care enough to extract some info?

these days, hot blooded bromance does not look safe in the fandom any more (see Mazinkaizer SKL for the fujoshi horrors)

The complete lack of girl pilots (except for probably one) is a big minus especially coming from Studio 8. Seriously, why does it have to be limited to guys? That other one with the mobile game seemed to have a much fairer balance.

Yeah, somebody ought to make a series with an all-female main cast. That'd show 'em.

So what is the deal with smartphone game and characters? Is it like...characters in the real world playing a Buddy Complex game, or characters in the Buddy Complex universe playing a game about the mecha?

Or just a mix like the one in Godannar.
