Maybe because both characters are from the same archtype and had similar character designs? I don't know who did the illustrations for the ZnT novels, but you can't deny they're like, carbon copies except Tabatha was a few sheets under Yuki.

Both characters are taken from novel series, so I assume the anime production companies have nothing to do with the similarities. It may be that both novel writers are good friends who share many ideas, or have the same inspiration. Certainly there is nothing wrong with a little copying from each other, as long as the story is written well. For example, in detective stories, the butler and police detective characters fall under common archetypes.

Both series share a character designer, Mai Otsuka, which probably explains a lot. I recognize four cast members from Shana that also have significant parts in Zero.

Let's move this discussion to a discussion thread. It's a great inside joke for Shana fans, and it should be discussed. (I want to discuss it.) We just shouldn't be discussing it here, however.
