i dont think guns should be in here. and its not because this is ninja manga/anime.
its just that when you have chakra and stuff, guns will not fit in.

and naruto only carries around the ninja manga/anime but arent ninjas stealthy instead of letting your target hear you from mile away yelling "CHIDORI!!!"
i think it strayed off "realistic ninja" now i consider it more of a fantasy anime/manga

I'm sure they have rifles, pistols, tanks, etc in the Naruto world. If they did use guns, I'm possitive that Ninjas would of developed techinques on how to deflect them, or hurt the user.

There isn't guns maily because the author wanted to be creative. Sort of like Dragonball (It's supposed to be based in the past with super future technology and ancient creatures like dinasours, and talking animals). How ever sinse Akira decided to use guns, he had to make the characters increadably stronger.

When you think about it, Genjutsu is the perfect weapon against firearms. You could disorientate their senses so much, they'll end up shooting themself in the foot thinking they were aiming at you... or something.

I could have sworn there was an episode with a gun in it. I think it was one of the naruto training rasengan episodes, were they were in a town, and on a stall there was a shotgun.
