The fear of unknownis the worst. You just dont know how to react to them, and you realise that one misstep will mean certain death easily. Female Tita is displaying something that's way outside of the norm behaviours, be it specifically countering everything the Scouting Legion were trained to do since the beginning.
When you realise that everything you know means jackshit, and that your comrades were toyed around and killed brutally like nothing, I doubt no one would be scared

I guess I just feel like this whole episode was a lot of the author repeating over and over "Nobody knows what the plan is, it doesn't make sense!" - he might as well be saying "I've got a surprise for you! You think they don't have a plan? Wait and see!". Having Eren be his puppet to repeat that message a third time is just... meh.

Does it show a breakdown in communication? Or is it something totally intentional? What about the unrelenting trust in the superiors when things aren't going so well in your eyes? Are you willing to sacrifice your heart for the Scouting Legion? A topic that both Jean and Eren brought up in this episode.

He's never been that bullheaded though, at least not since graduating from the military. In fact he thinks plenty when necessary. Back in Trost for example when Pixis and some of the other guys were all gun-ho about his Titan powers he immediately cautioned on using it. Even Eren won't take such risks without any real tangible benefits to them.

On the whole plan it is obvious that Erwin plans to flush out Titan infiltrators with Eren as bait.
Remember what he said to Eren: Who do you think is the real enemy? Eren's very existence presents a very large piece of the puzzle that has been boggling the Recon corps. How the hell did the Colossus Titan appear and disappear like that without being noticed? Answer he changes like Eren does. |

That was a really strong episode in showing a titan that not only has no mercy but is intelligent enough to torture its victims in a methodical manner. I did lol at the spinning thing, and there's also superderp titan.
The best part is of course trying to figure out what the hell Levi was thinking. Then as he calmly runs away while everyone is scared shitless, he sends out a flare to summon... well there aren't many choices are there?

It's not for the small details that people (and the author himself) say that many aspects of this manga were inspired from MLA. I implied enough I guess. If you want to spoil yourself, go check the MuvLuv Wiki, the BETA article.

Yes I know SnK had influence from it, however, it is irrelevant to the current topic or the post I was replying to, which centers on a specific detail of character reaction, not an overall shared theme.

For some reason I was laughing throughout the episode (funny reaction to have when everyone's getting murdered). First Krista, then Jean.. then Eren & his squad's reactions...I think laughing's a good change of pace from "HOLY CRAP, SHE'S INVINCIBLE, WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!".
PS: "You spin my head right round, right round" *humms* |

Since the manga have no color I have no way to confirm what flare color they actually fired. But I am pretty sure they simply fired a yellow flare in manga, a generic "Emergency, we can't continue mission" signal. That was why they are so worry that nobody will get that it mean "We stuck here please bring us some horses". Not to mention their signal would be only one among numerous yellow flares flying all over right flank at that time.
