The Winter Event will be based on Operation Rei-Go, the one where Adm. Kimura of the Glorious Mustache brought Kasumi (flagship), Kiyoshimo, Asashimo, Ooyodo, Ashigara and three Matsu-class destroyers to disturb the American gentlemen at Mindoro on 26 Dec 1944.

They encountered 10 PT boats, 3 transports and 120 ground-based planes (which were at that time not very well-equipped for anti-ship combat). Kiyoshimo was sunk by PT-233 along the way but her crew were rescued when Adm. Kimura ordered the fleet sans Ooyodo and Ashigara to go back for them after completing their objectives (somewhat). The two larger ships defied their orders and helped out nonetheless.

So, KanColle-wise, the aforementioned kanmusu will quite likely play a part in routing. I think, especially Kasumi, Ashigara and Kiyoshimo, as these three are the more common kanmusu (Kiyoshimo less so, but still more common than Ooyodo and Asashimo). I would also expect at least a few night battle nodes, as the confrontations which occurred in this operation fell between 1800 (26 Dec) to 0004 (27 Dec). And of course, PT boats

Reward or drop-wise, there's a chance that the Matsu-class might make their debut in this event. Interestingly, the three that went on this operation (Kashi, Kaya and Sugi) all survived the war and were given out to the US, USSR and ROC respectively, with Kaya and Sugi (now Volevoy and Huiyang) serving up to the 1950s (1959 for Kaya and 1951 for Sugi).

Note that these are just speculations on my part though =3

Whew, done with Kongou's levelling (now maxed at 155), and just about to start grinding Ashigara (what timing!) to Kai Ni, and if her involvement in the next event proves significant it's a great choice made on my part.

Hmm, that fits my roster pretty well:

Kasumi: 77, in the process of getting to 80
Kiyoshimo: 80
Asashimo: 80
Ōyodo: 97
Ashigara: 95

I won't need to go into preparation mode until 7-10 days before the event. Keeping resources stable around 272/270/300/176-trending-upwards/3000 while going for a top-500 finish this month too.

Seems like we'll be getting a second straight event that's escort oriented, so it'll probably be light on resources. In addition to fighting PTs at night again it's not out of the realm of the possible to get installation type enemies considering that as part of the operation the Japanese shelled the American beachhead on Mindoro.

Hopefully the last map won't be one where we can only bring CA/Vs and lighter. Ise and Hyuuga were supposed to be part of Kimura's fleet but were dropped as they were too slow. If Tanaka wants to stick to history, he might prevent the use of battleships

Level requirements for Kasumi are stated as "high", won't need a blueprint. She will have a second form, called 霞改二乙. Seems to be something about anti-air defense. Like with the -kakus she can switch between this form and regular Kai Ni.

So Kasumi Kai Ni does apparently have an alternate Kai Ni form that turns her into a AAA Destroyer, and she'll be able to switch between both forms at will provided you spend the resources.

If I understand it correctly she can do anti-air cut-in with a HA gun, an AA radar and a AA machine-gun. She won't be as potent as the Akizukis however. Oh and 75 seems to be enough in level for the Kai Ni.

I don't know if I regard that as worth it if her anti-air cut-in isn't as powerful as the one of Akizuki/Teruzuki. She loses 13 firepower+torpedo.

But hey, what's this? Kasumi Kai Ni can equip the Daihatsu. I may go back to LSC'ing, this time looking for Akitsu Marus. It's not like I'm in resource shortage, gaining them actually while gunning for top-500.

Second, what's this? Kasumi Kai Ni can equip the FCF. Flagship for a reason.

And third, what's this? Somebody on twitter claiming you can put a large radar on 改二乙.

Fubuki Kai Ni: 59 FP / 88 TORP / 78 AA / 50 ARM
Kasumi Kai Ni: 63 FP / 92 TORP / 72 AA / 50 ARM
Kasumi Kai Ni 乙: 59 FP / 83 TORP / 80 AA / 52 ARM

The night firepower difference between their regular Kai Ni form is in the same region as the difference between Ayanami and Poi.

I do wonder if this will be a ongoing thing, whatever she's holding changing to suit the season. Maybe like a heart-shaped chocolate for Valentine, Hishimochi for Hinamasuri, a turkey for Christmas, etc =3

I keep reading tips saying that we should level up Kasumi just in case she turns out to be important for the upcoming event. I'm still in the process of levelling up Myoko and the rest of my Kongos though...
