I'm starting to think everyone in Xing who was trained as a fighter or warrior obtains some knowledge regarding the flow of the world that is essential in learning Rentanjutsu. That's why Ling and the other Xingese warriors are able to sense the disturbance in the flow that is so strong in Amestris, especially when it comes to the subject of Homunculi and Father (with the exception of Bradley of course).

You can't deny the randomness of how that went on tho lol. Still, it showed that Ling was already pretty strong on his own.

No, It wasn't random at all. They both went underground after the Homunculli split up(Although I'm unsure whether Ling assisted Lan with severing her arm and attaching it to a dog or not). With Ling's ability to sense Gluttony, he was able to spring right out from the nearest manhole.

Well, you have to admit that it was very sudden. If you read it progressively, one moment you see Ling escaping from Gluttony and Wrath while carrying Lan on his back. The next moment, you see Ed and Al fighting Scar when Gluttony suddenly pops up out of nowhere and Ling follows suit and ties him up with the metal chords Ed made for him. It almost reminds me of the kind of randomness you find in movies like Pulp Fiction and Snatch.

No shit; the anime moves so fast and takes out so many frames that were in the manga, you actually do feel like it is all random. It was not like this while reading the manga.

Anyway, this battle is just storyless action after Scar revealed his past. FMA generally feels random without the plot moving forward for an episode.

I'm still not really convinced. Now episode 19 where Roy appeared at the tower all the way from HQ in what was just 5-7 minutes time. Now that was random!

Probably he wasn't so far away from where Riza, Fuery and Gluttony were. Fear fuels people, you know.

I don't think the anime showed it, but Roy went by car then.

Episode 24 covers almost 2 chapters 49 & 50. New episodes will cover from 51 onward.

EDIT: And here I have a question regarding Brotherhood ep 24, if any manga reader can answer me:

Spoiler for ep 24:

i'm not sure if this has been asked before, but does anyone know how many episodes are in this season of FMA? I watched the first FMA and thought it was a very good and original anime but with this second season, is it like retelling the same basic story to get to the same ending as in the first season (with some new episodes) or would it lead to something completely different?

Brotherhood is not retelling the 'same basic story' if you're referring to the first anime. Brotherhood isn't the 'second season', it's a remake. The first anime's story is completely different from the manga's from Hughes' death, I've been told. BONES completely made up everything from that point on, I think. Brotherhood is going to follow the manga, which will obviously lead to the its own ending. Which, as a matter of fact, is drawing close.

You should go read the manga. Its story is simply amazing.
