The most canon pairing that I can think of is Matsumoto and Gin, followed by Yoruichi and Urahara.

Can anyone tell me why Ichigo x Rukia are a canon pairing?

Actually less than half of the story now. 16X/403 chaps (post Byakuya fight). But that's more than most other pairs.

Because the opening is a ichigoXrukia fanboy

no but seriously it's probably because of the biggest flaw in just about EVERY poll in these long lasting anime forums... the polls are just WAY out of date...
The poll was made back in 2006... so we're talking about like 200 chapters ago... if anything, any kind of development that looked like IchigoXorihime came AFTER the poll was made... hell the poll could have been made even before Orihime confessed her love to ichigo

but ya... a male and female as lead characters alone does not a canon pairing make...
Not to mention that Rukia hasn't really been the much of the focus since SS... she's not really much more important than the rest of ichigo's gang now...

i'm pretty sure she and/or tatsuki mentioned it at some point pretty early on.

also, if it counts, she wanted to confess in the manga pilot, but her "father" talked her out of it.

Yoruichi & Urahara are probably the most canon. I think people get too focused on Ichigo & his "girls".

If you take a look at the timecode at when the thread starter has started this thread, Orihime wasn't even a factor to this equation of "most canon pairing." Her interest in Ichigo had yet to become clear. I also remember that GinxMatsumoto and UraharaxYoruichi pairing were in the lead simultaneously for sometime. Most of us liked Ichigo and Rukia's interaction mostly due to Rukia's infectious cheery self that complimented her level headed personality. Very few people have actually sought to pair them at the time. Most of us simply enjoyed their hilarious interaction without dismissing the possibility that this two might develop something more to it in the future. Nothing defined but not without possibilities. And sadly such possibilites have yet to be explored by Kubo to date. Once Orihime's interest in Ichigo started to surface, the whole shipping (the ugly kind) started taking shape.

This thread starter is still away from all of that for sometime, and if you read the response in the thread you can see a substantial difference in tone compared to today's discussion in regards to pairing. Shippers, the ugly ones, ruined it for all of us!

I voted for Urahara x Yoruichi. However, I'll put Gin x Matsumoto right with them. I'm actually interested to the next time Gin and Matsumoto talk if it ever happens. Though romance in this series never seemed like anything important in my opinion mostly just friendship.

As I said, in the anime, the most canon pairing is IchigoxSenna.

The anime staff have said that Ichigo loved her.

For Tite Kubo, it's Ishida x Inoue (he said they was his favorite pairing)

Based to the event of the manga, Nanao x Kyoraku is the most canon(Nanao made him some valentine choco) followed by Rangiku x Gin (Tite Kubo said it in the guide book) and Ulquiolla x Inoue (the poem about the heart is the proof that Ulquiolla was in love for her).

We don' have enough information for the Yoruichi x Urahara and Hinamori x Hitsugaya could be a sister/brother relation.

We also know that Renji is in love for Rukia, but Rukia don't seems in love for him. But, personnaly, I think in the future, he woulde be the Rukia's husband.

He almost asked her hand to Byakuya just before their fight in the soul society where Byakuya nearly kill Renji (Byakuya really have a sister complex)
