It's an action-fantasy anime, if I had to make a comparison, I would think to the first Shakugan no Shana (even if Index is no Shana, they have different traits - knowledge vs. physical strength - and personalities). There are and will be some moeblob moments, or tsundere moments, but it's the action department which takes the cake.
So it depends on tastes, if you liked Shana (first season), then this might be suggested.
