Homura is default character, but you can play as either Homura, Sayaka, Mami, or Kyouko.

When you clear a castle, Kyubey sprints up to you and says "Your Princess is in another Castle".

I personally think that their "Mario" suits.. suits them well with each customization matching the characters. It's kinda amusing that Madoka and Mami has very similar style.
