Kill La Kill General Discussion Thread
Director: Hiroyuki Imaishi Series Composition/Script: Kazuki Nakashima Character Design: Sushio Animation Production: Trigger It's a 2-cours battle action show set in an all girls high school. The main characters are Ryuuko Matoi and Satsuki Kiryuuin. Satsuki is the 18 year old studen council president in a school where strength rules over all, and her uniform grants her the power of conquest. Ryuuko is a 17 year old transfer student to the school. She carries with her half a piece of a giant scissors-sword as a weapon, and she is looking for the other half seeking revenge for something in her past. The rivalry between the two girls is what drives the series forward. Originally the plan was to make a pure battle manga sort of series set in a highschool, with the main character beating rival after rival in combat. After Nakashima compled about 4 episodes worth of scripts, Imaishi probably got bored of it because he decided to trash everything. The series has apparently since been changed to focus on character drama instead. The rivalry between the two main characters will be a major driving force. Synopsis looks amazing, but given it's set in all-girls school, I am doubting about whether the yuri undertones might fit the story or not (don't get me wrong, I like yuri undertones for the most part). On the other hand, the character designs are great, and I'll definitively watch it since Imaishi also participating in Inferno Cop, which I enjoyed and liked.

Sounds very interesting. One thing I've always liked about Imaishi Hiroyuki's work is the fight scenes which are ridiculously awesome and well animated so I think this series will provide plenty of that. Nakashima Kazuki being involved is also a strong plus for me.

I hope not. That franchise was pretty rambly in it's dialogue and not to mention irritating to me and the characters interactions were kind of nonsensical and not very funny/amusing if that was the goal. It just felt like more of the same from that IMO try hard author who to be honest I'm already kind of tired of.
I'm hoping for something more visceral, better directed, and with more to the point dialogue than that show. Something with developments and character interactions that doesn't seem like it's trying to hard to be witty and loldeep while thumbing it's nose at the audience so much as catchy, fun and memorable. So in short something like this teams predecessor Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I'm glad that the director seems to have realized that an MC just defeating rival after rival would probably make for a boring show and decided to scrap that plotline for something a little more involved. Hope what they came up with works out. |
