The big twist at the end of the story is that the character the reader thought was L the whole time is actually Beyond Birthday.

this book was pretty good but i must admit I was a little bit disapointed with the climax. It was such an unexpected and, at first, confusing conclusion. Based on the description when Misora first met B.B. I could have sworn that was L. He had the same clothes, hair, habits(love for sweets), methods, mannaerisms, and personality. Also was the way he talked and and sat. Was he an exact copy of L or something?

Personally, I think that everyone from Wammy's House happen to end of with severe personality quirks like Mello's love of chocolate and Near's love of toys. And... some people have said that sweets stimulate the brain or something... plus, that position that BB uses is surprisingly good for thinking. And if you think about, Beyond Birthday was a back-up of L to begin with, so the two being alike in many ways is not unnatural. Beyond was a copy of L, a back-up in case something happened to the real L to fill L's shoes as if he were the real L, if anything happened to the real L. Overall, it kind of makes sense to me in some strange way.

I liked the book. It has a nice pace and is a light read with a satisfying plot.

Yes, it's been released in the US. I was surprised on one of my weekly excursions to the B&N, what did I find but more Death Note stuff. I haven't been keeping up with the series too much (read the manga, at least) and I was hesitant to buy it straight off because some of the light novels out there are just horrible, in my opinion. *cough* LOVE HINA *cough* (The manga and anime of that are good, but back on topic...)

So I picked it up and read through a few pages. It's written well and the story pulled me in, so I bought it on the spot. =]

I thought that BB's end was a satisfying one. Because they were so alike, you could call BB the ultimate L clone and in the end, the only one who could surpass L. In addition, it is pointed out that BB had put on the make-up and such to make him appear the way he does. It's safe to say that perhaps, the original L replacements had met L in the past and thus, BB knew what kind of person he was and therefore, to make the biggest impression, BB became Ryuzaki. BB knew L that well and had a level of dedication equal to L. Both L and BB are the type of people who would lay their lives at stake, if it would yield results.

As for english, the Novel is already out in English.

In the early vol of manga, L mentioned that he met Misora during the BB case, so I wonder if this novel was actually published before DN manga ?

If you're a fan of L, then this novel will be disappointing b/c it focuses on Misora.

ok i just got the book n i havent had a chance to read it yet but i know all the major points in the book mainly cuz ma friend spoiled it for me but i like wat i have read so far

Okay, so my friend got the book for her Birthday this year, and she said that it was the best gift she ever recieved. She read the whole book, and saids that it is really good, and reccomends me on reading it. So I was like "Okay sure". So today I finally asked if I can borrow the book (because she told me a brief summary on what the Manga was about and I got really interested about the novel), and she said "Yeah =]".
So I just read the mini Prolouge in the beginning, and parts of Chapter 1, and I was "WOW!!!! Though I never watched the anime and read the manga, this story is awsome". I won't spoil it until I get to read half of the book. I read the back and it cost SO much money ($18 is a little pricy compared to how much I had in the summer). But if I read the whole book and still like it, I think I'm gonna get it with one of my Borders rewards gift coupons in the future!

Sorry to quote an older post, but to clarify, I believe that original storyline writer of Death Note, Tsugumi Ohba, stated that while he help in the writing of the novel much, that Nisio Isin did such a good job in writing it, he'd consider it canon and that it definitely fits into the Death Note story.

Oh, and yeah, it was released after the manga, which is surprising. XD

My friend had to literally peel me off a chair first and then the floor before I would move to purchase this book and continue reading it at my house. =D
