I hope there's more to it than bad writing since well, it has quite major implications
The beams fell to fast for the void to disappear.

The story is just a trainwreck. It's surprising that even the voice actors can take it seriously.

You obviously never saw the English dubbed version of Master of Martial Hearts.

That was a good episode. Shu isn't as lost as I had expected. And we have solid proof that destroying the Void weapon means death. And as for Inori... oh snap! I am said that there will be no more Sheryl though.

I wouldn't yet assume that Argo is dead (mind you, that's with me not having seen the preview for Episode 17).

If I don't see a character get killed on-camera in this show, I don't assume anything (even when they are killed on-camera, it's not always a sure thing it seems... ).

Same for me. If I don't see it happen on screen, I hold my assumptions until the truth is clearly stated to me. (However, in Gai's case, whether it happens on or off screen may possibly not mean shit. )

Ok, so... Arisa lost a lot of blood? lol

I see that some of you have been comparing this to Code Geass. This is nowhere as epic as Code Geass. We are dealing with an emo kid who wants the attention of the girl he fancies.

me too

and I hope there will be less people dead because if too many people die, this show will be ruined.... (at least I will surely lower my rating for this anime)

anyway, we got similar plot with Code Geass but I'm not sure if they will end up with completely same plot...
well, Guilty Crown is more focused on Shu's character development... (even though actually I don't think he's changed... ... he's just coward as usual)
I see many death flags but I still hope for a happy ending between Shuhrer and Inomanari...
Code Geass and Guilty Crown are just different....

Spoiler for personal opinion:

Same here.Honestly they just tool in the big scheme from what I see. I does not condone them but I feel sorry for them.A this point I hope that after all this mess the people just think they are death or that they go away and live their life together somewhere just the two(or 3) of them.

Computing for the "usual" time to return a Void to its user, it would take around ~2 - 3 seconds. The beam falling took 1 sec. So it's still pretty much consistent at that.

---so yeah...

Its been mentioned a couple of times in the thread already, Arisa is not dead, you can see her in the preview for 18. I believe it's Inori's of manipulating people. Remember the other 3 students she "killed"? No fuss about them at all until now. Of course, we still don't know if that merely just chalks up to sloppy writing.

Also, comparisons to Code Geass comes from the fact that both shows not only share writers, but also share the writers' love for crazy twists, cliffhangers, and jumps in logic.

Not really, I forgot which episode it was, but when they were experimenting with Voids (the same episode where Shu explains how a person can use their own Void), it took a fraction of a second for the thing to disappear. It didn't even reach the ground.

Which is not what we saw in this episode, where the crossbow fell to the ground and didn't even show signs of the disappearing process.

I think Shu has to be the one to drop it, not the Void owner.

The question is, can Shu "release" the Voids from everyone at once? There are too many unanswered rules here that can impact the story.

The F Rank girl who had a Comb Void also lost her void the instant she let it go. Likewise, the bottle void of the guy next to her also dematerialized the moment he threw it away.
So no, the whole "void dematerializing itself when out of Shuu/Owner touch" is supposed to be a consistent rule.

Which makes my question even more actual.

Why didn't the crossbow girl's Void disappear the moment she released it, when every other Void does so?

Inconsistency, people. Also known as plot hole.
