There saving the Kakashi act for something. Probably a filler were Kakashi is asked (how did you get that sharingan anyways?) and he says the story.

That story was supposed to have been told right before the shippuuden arc started.
Whose profile is the one james typed two posts above?

I think it was shown around that time, when the two of them were walking around sewers or something.

I expect that it will occur during the Year(s) of Sasuke, if at all.

Does the author ever officially confirm that certain characters are dead (like some sort of fact sheet)

Well, if the characters get a funeral, they are (usually) officially dead, and Naruto is the kind of series that just loves grinding around in funeral episodes.

Generally speaking, the data books will explain if someone has died or not. But, for certain characters, Kishimoto keeps the mystery of their death or life very secretive.

Is there a site that summarizes the manga from beginning to end?

Google .

Wikipedia - basic summaries.
Narutopedia - plot summary.
Leafninja - individual volume/chapter summaries.

well if you watched the anime its pretty much the exact same, which is rare for adaptations, the only difference in anime vs manga, is that there is no fillers, I'm pretty sure they didn't change any of the story, though in the manga there is Kakashi Gaiden which seems to have been skipped over by the anime but I'm not sure, please somebody confirm this for me.

Thanks, the plot summaries at narutopedia had just the right amount of depth that I was looking for.

The reason is pretty obvious. Putting it in in the middle or at the end of part 1 fillers wouldn't have made much sense, and putting it at the beginning of Shippuuden would have been confusing.

I think they should have animated it before the filler session, but there's always the chance of animating it at a certain point in time (manga readers:around 12 chapters ago).

That would have worked, but it still would have been out of place, the reason why they didn't do after filler was because viewership dropped dramatically after non canon episodes were broadcast, and with shippuden it would be awkard because timeskip, represented change where as kakashi gaiden is firmly in the past, plus the first episode with naruto standing on top of the village was a great way to have the series be reborn, to escape the mess that were the fillers. I'm still hoping that they will eventually do kakashi gaiden, either in movie or ova form, or hell even in the show as a way to space out manga from anime. Kakashi gaiden was one of the better parts of the anime, because one, we get to see a scrub uchiha, yondaime, and of course chibi kakashi.
