It's actually just the saturation + effects that make it look like bad quality. The image itself is pretty HQ, but it doesn't look very nice cropped down that small without some editing to the colours and what not.

Lord Zetsuei: 8/10 - I really like the colours and it's clean, but I rated it lower than 9 because though a nice image, it matches your signature too much. Even if you still made it from your signature but cropped it differently, it'd probably look less... "matchy"

Lord Uiruu: 3/10 - It looks like CG from a game just resized and stuck in your avatar. ;w; It needs a border or a better crop or something.
