You mean Kyon? He was the very first person to come to mind. Surprisingly, Kimidori didn't list him, though Kyon tops the llst of anime examples on the TVTropes page Kimidori cites. The person who listed Kyon on that page has some issues about whether he entirely qualifies.

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi has one of main char as narrator, but not the protagonist.
